This is a video of the wii being connected to the pc to allow it to run backup discs without a modchip.

These are the steps that I got off sid3arm. I got them at a forum but giving a links would be giving you a rom site.

Here is the so awaited Wab-Mod Cheap Launcher for DMS/D2A WII Version'

1) Turn ON your Wii
2) run WabModcheap(.exe)
3) Insert disc when it ask
4) Play

Notes
- Cheap DVD-R sux sometime, if the game doesn't start and stop spinning eject it and reinsert it !!
- THIS CODE DON'T USE WINJA CODE !!
- This CODE IS OPEN SOURCED
- NOthing got for Compilling
- Fully Tested under Linux work 100%
-MUST connect WII to PC with USB TO PARALELL (not yet confirmed)
-Can USE PARALLEL TO PARALLEL CORD(CORNFIRMED WORKING)

Isn't it just a parallel to drive solder points mod, like its basically the same as a mod chip its just the modchip is the pc rather then a chip. Seems kinda stupid, I'm pretty sure you have to still solder stuff.

From what I can tell, it is possible to just attach a usb cable from the wii to the usb port on the computer.
This works by soldering a cable directly to the Wii DVD drive's serial port points, the same point the current drive modchips are soldered to.
This was originally released before modchips were available and has had some revisions since.

Old news I'm afraid. It certainly does not work via USB either.
