Hi all,
I'm trying to pick a Harvest Moon game to play. I haven't played any Harvest Moon games before, but I'm familiar with the farming simulation part of the game.

Which one should I start with?

Thanks.

The Harvest Moon games on DS:
  • Harvest Moon DS (2006)
  • Harvest Moon DS Cute (2008)
  • Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness (2008)
  • Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming (2009)
  • Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands (2009)
  • Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon (2007)
  • Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon (2008)

Look, HM: DS is the simplest, HM: DS Cute is played with girls, HM: Island of H is just the touchscreen, and the Sunshines Islands which I think is best.
The Rune Factory is an RPG with battles.

I tried Cute, it was like having a sugar tumor pressing against the inside of my skull. Couldn't play more than... 30 minutes of it. The interface was shovelware bullshit.

Rune Factory 2 is bomb, though, if you're looking for a more mature fantasy replacement for Animal Crossing. Not nearly as innovative, creative or cute, but takes Harvest Moon RPG-style gameplay and puts it in a rotating calendar universe.

Sunshine Islands was terrible. Terrible controls were terrible.
Rune Factory wasn't too bad. I sometimes felt stressed with the amount of things you could do though. :/
Harvest Moon DS was lovely, and it's the game which is most similair to the GBA and PS1 versions. /drool
