I purchased a brand new 60GB 360 and I checked it's memory it said 48.8 GB available out of 51.1 GB is it common for the hard drives to be missing that much memory? Or is it actually there but partitioned or something along those lines. any help is much appreciated.

That's normal

You will never get 60gig from a 60gig drive... no matter what you put it on...

Read the box, and you'll see this...

I didn't intend to sound rude there, but it's a fact

Yea, i think with my 20 gig when i got it new, it was 12.1g available out of the box (due to system info and whatnot) and especially now w/ the new NXE thing going on, it takes up more space (but i don't know how much... haven't played with NXE yet

)

So, 7.9 gigs gone off the old system, yea that sounds about right for space available from the 60 gig'ers

i need a new hd. 20gb is small now a days. 60gb is cheap now right?

I had recently read somewhere (can't remember, tried to search, can't find it, sorry :\ ) of a new XBL Starter kit. 60gig HD, wired head set & 3-month XBL gold acct for $99. Dunno if/when its coming out... but i just read new info on it SOMEWHERE.

If i find a link (or someone else does) then we'll have mo' info going.

So, $100 for a 60gig drive and a 3-month subscription sounds fantastic for me heh

Yeah I saw that deal around somewhere online, quite tempting as the 20 gig is nothing these days!

I just did the hard drive hack - pretty easy to do and much cheaper than buying an official drive. The hardest part was making my PC boot MSDOS from my usb memory stick (I have no floppy drive).
