Gaming Hacking a 5.03

Ok, here's the story:

I was trying to install custom firmware on my PSP-1000 with ChickHEN, and after 20 tries or so, I quit.
Now, I want to try using my friend's hacked PSP to convert my battery into a Pandora's battery, but I'm not sure if 5.03 firmware can let me use the battery because I heard that there's a limit somewhere.

Can I still install custom firmware over 5.03?

The firmware doesn't matter when using a pandora battery so yes, you can install cfw over 5.03.

Great! It's gonna take some time to get ahold of my friend's PSP to hack mine, so I wanted to get some demos.

So what could you not get to work? If you put the h.bin in your root and copied all the right folders, it should be fairly easy? I usually get it on my 1st or 2nd try..

Well, I got two theories on this subject:
1. My MS is a Magic Memory Stick.
2. The picture there was called slim.tiff even though I installed a Phat version AFAIK.

You have a 100x PSP? The ChickHEN R2 I downloaded had came with 2 seperate folders, one for the Fat, the other for the Slim/Brite PSPs. I have a 3K one so I used slim, if you have a Fat, you were supposed to use the Fat folder.

Or did yours not come with one?

You don't need a magic memory stick. Try formatting your Memory stick and only have ChickHEN and Hellcat's flasher on it. In the ChickHEN R2 folder, the Phat file is called eggsploit.tiff. You put this in your pictures. Then you put the H.bin in the root of your memory stick. The Slim Tiff is for the 2000/3000 versions.

I found an installer with all the crap to Pandora my battery using ChickHEN. It said that it's for Phat, but it got me Slim instead.
I tried using the exploit that came with a Fat folder first, but I gave up on it pretty quickly since I didn't know it doesn't always work.

Yeah, that was probably my problem in the first place.

Anyway, I don't need ChickHEN anymore since I hardmodded my battery.

Yeah...took me about 2 HOURS to finally get the screen to flash using ChickHEN and i'm not a very patient person..lol. About 1 hour into trying to get ChickHEN to load successfuly and searching about 20 different websites to get an answer on how to get it to work, i found out that you should but the h.bin file into nearly every folder on your psp and when i tried it the first time after doing that it worked.

No offense, but you must be really slow. All you do is put it in your root, copy the ChickHEN to your PSP/PHOTO folder and quickly select the first folder, and scroll all the way down moderately quickly. My first try hacking my PSP 3K I got it on my 2nd time, I can't imagine it taking anyone 2 hours..

Yeah the thing with ChickHEN on PSP 1001 and the like is that you need to remove all the pictures of eggs and just keep the .tiff image. It took me a few minutes until I deleted the other files in the folder and on the next go around it worked.

No offense, but you must be really slow. PSP 1000's are pretty stubborn. And it did take 2 hours. no joke. Anyway it is done now.

Well I guess it doesn't really matter since after 2 hours, you don't exactly have to do it again since you can use a permanent CFW.

Yeah, i put 5.0 m33-4 on it. One of my friends hates his psp 3000 partly due to the fact that every time it freezes, he has to re-install ChickHEN.
