Hacking Hack OG 3DS with R4 DS?

I was looking at this hacking guide https://3ds.hacks.guide/ntrboot and saw I can use a flash cart on a DS instead of 3DS. Now, does the flash cart used on DS also have to be compatible with 3DS by default, or will flashing it with ntrboot overcome any incompatibility? I only have the original R4 for DS and DS Lite, and I know my 3DS can't read it by default. Will flashing it overcome this issue and allow me to hack my 3DS, or will I have to get a flashcart that's made to work on 3DS?

And yes, I have a DS Lite that can read the R4.

You must use a flashcart that's listed on that compatibility list. The original R4 doesn't have the ability to be flashed, so it's incompatible.

If you don't want to spend $15 or so for a compatible flashcart, you can always use the DSiWare/Seedminer method, which only costs $2.

I think you need a new r4 card
The original r4 is not compatible with the 3ds or ntrboot

It can't read it just because it was patched. And ntrboot is independent if/from/idk fw. So if your flashcard is supported, it will work no matter what fw you have.

Thank you for the response. I guess I'll get an R4i-SDHC 3DS, or something equally cheap. I specifically wanna hack my Japanese 3DS to make Download Play region free, so DsiWare will probably cost about the same since I'd have to import a Japanese eshop card.

Why not get a r4i gold plus 3ds
It has no timebomb, is ntrboot compatible and you cam restore the cart back to play ds roms

I personally wudnt buy a r4i-sdhc card. Better go with the R4i Gold 3DS models(RTS or Plus, both are good). These dont have timebombs while the sdhc one has One.
