Play with a Mini-SD Adapter and see what you can find. You can crash the 3DS in whole new ways. I think I ended up finding an interesting "SDCard-canceling" mode where the 3DS will refuse to accept anything from the SDCard unless the SDCard is pulled out and then reinserted. It's quite interesting the way the 3DS will handle you taking the Mini-SD card out during a game such as Excitebike. Experiment for yourself and see what you can end up doing. I have no idea how to inject code. Much less, write 3DS ARM code to experiment with (I'm pretty sure no one, but Nintendo and it's developers do). If you find anything interesting feel free to post.

That's because the game is running off of the SD Card... That's like saying "you can take out a game cartridge while playing the game to get into the 3DS's kernel".

It freezes because it can't load the game anymore, as you removed it from the system.

EDIT: Nice name, BTW.

I guess I didn't explain very well. I mean take the Mini-SD out of your Mini-SD adapter. There isn't a screen that tells you to hit the home button. Different games and sequences of actions do different things.

Oh and thanks.

That's the exact same thing. So, as he explained before, that's like removing a game cartridge while playing the game. Herp Derp the mini-SD card is where all the data is kept.

Last I checked 3DS's came with regular SD cards and almost no one uses Mini SD anymore. Why are people getting mini and micro confused? Its not a hard concept.

*facepalm* I know where the data is stored. The game doesn't always freeze right away. Things get stored in memory and you can play through however far the 3ds saved it in memory. Sounds loop where they shouldn't. Images appear strangely.

I understand why it does it. I'm fascinated in what happens with it.

You're right it is micro. My bad.

Ok then, let me explain myself a tad more.

Just because the game is stored in the memory doesn't mean that it is a hack or that it is exploitable in any way. So first off I'd wish for a mod to retitle this please. Secondly, micro or mini sd? EDIT: Well I guess we know the answer to this one, next time just edit your post to btw. Thirdly, of course what happens happens, it's only a small part stored in the memory. It's not like it will let us inject code into the 3DS. All it's doing, in simple terms, is running out of content on the memory to play. It won't just unlock itself to us like that.

Umm. Has anyone attempted to change like one byte of the Excitebike game then reinsert the microSD card? See if maybe it doesn't have a checksum.

It's encrypted.
Yeah that figures. Still doesn't answer my question. Assume we break the encryption, is there a checksum as well? Just change a byte. See what happens.

Actually, hell. I'll do it myself.

I haz hax theory plug ur 3ds headphone jack to ur pc sound card and play mp3 that cauzes bufer overflow

Seriously, this thread is epic fail. Pretty much like any hack theory thread in this forum. This is like booting your computer and then unplugging the HDD, 'hey windows freeezes it can be haxxored :DDDDDD'

DS gets confused because it thinks an SD card is inserted but can't fidn the data so glitches occur. Nothing can come of this. NEXT PLEASE!
