So I've been playing Smash on my GW and been putting the 3DS to sleep since I've been playing Smash so much. Well I almost dropped my 3DS and while I catched it I accidentally ejected the GW. My console said the game was ejected and to press the home button. Put it back in pressed the home button and it returned me back to sysNand. Can you guess what happened? The several days of progress I made are gone. Do we still need to quit out of games to save them on 2.4? Anyway to get my progress back?

The game resets to a different mode when it starts and ends (to get and release extra memory). You can work around this by exiting straight to a different app like Health & Safety or whatever you choose then exit to Home.

Never, never, ever, EVER do this with any game on the Acekard. Accidental ejection of the card while playing any game WILL fuck everything up. Just reset the system at the end of each day, it doesn't even take that long.

Pretty sure RTS (real time save) has been implemented for a while now on the gateway. No need to home>exit anymore.

I think they said it was implemented but I have still had issues with games not saving when my card is bumped out or battery dies.

On gateway, only card2 games (Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing, Tomodachi Life, and VC roms) are RTS. Card1 games still need to exit properly in order to transfer save to SD card.

That's cool. I don't play many card 2 games anymore. I beat Pokemon and Animal Crossing. I have tomodachi and I plan to play that once my Fiance makes me a bunch of random mii character.

Pretty sure you need to do just a little more research. The only games that rts are card 2 games. Everything else you have to either press home and x or power off the console by holding the power button(this is what gateway team meant about rts. Basically you can save and turn off your console and not have to worry about it.)

This is exactly what happened to me. I also lost my progress. But in my case it was only one Classic Mode run.

Why would you put your poor system to sleep instead of turning it off? That's just unnecessary wear and tear. I have a hard enough time keeping my PS3 on for a few hours before I start to panic. Do your Gateway and 3DS a favor and turn it off every once in a while. At least when you go to bed, unless you playing Smash so often means you wake up in the middle of the night to do so, but then that's a whole 'nother problem.

there was a lot of confusion when gateway said they had "real time saving".....truth is their save system is pretty much the same as when gateway was first released with a few improvements to cause the save to transfer when powering down..........but you still need to exit the game for the save to be transferred to the SD card......if your 3DS crashes or battery dies you loose you save progress from the last time you exited out of the game

I want to disagree as well. I use Gateway3DS all the time and when it saves in game I just turn the fucker off or let the battery die and I've *never* lost a savegame by not doing the HOME -> EXIT method. I never use the HOME -> EXIT method, ever.

A card being knocked out while its on is different, I've had that happen and when I boot the system back up the savegame is straight up deleted.

The 3DS losing its power intentionally is fine, but when either it or the game crashes, that save data is gone. I always use home+X to be extra safe, though. Nothing makes me less likely to finish a game than spending a bunch of time on it and losing all that progress.

I lost a week worth of Monster Hunter 4 gametime when my 3DS crashed, probably because of improper battery seating. Since then, I always close my game if I'm not playing for a prolong period of time.

You guys can disagree all you want. Guy I quoted you're partially correct. The only thing that you're not correct on though is that losing power intentionally is fine. The only reason your not correct there is that for some people it does indeed work and some it does not... so youre halfway correct there. I have had it happen multiple times both ways.

The fact of the matter is if the gateway pops out of the slot or if the 3ds freezes you lose your save. Period. You can even test it out. Load a game get some more money or time or whatever and save. Pop the card out. Voila save gone.

That thread may disagree with me but the only safe way to make sure you keep your saves is to home and x or straight up power down. This isnt the first time we have had this same question asked so your little thread that disagrees has no relevance because of the proof that this same questions keeps being asked.

I was under the false impression that this was a thing of the past. Luckily, I'm tidy enough to always power down a title when I'm done with it. Reading this now I'm glad I've been doing so. XD
