Hacking GUI WAD Manager??

When this discussion was hot, I had modified the USB Loader GX at the time, to read and list wad files from the SD card (instead of games from a wbfs partition), and I was able to install and uninstall wads. But at that time, I was running into a lot of instability. The thing would crash and hang very often. So I was going to wait for the the development of USB Loader GX to stabilize and then have another go at it. Now I see that the USB Loader GX already has the ability to install and uninstall wads. So if anyone is up to the task, I would recommend using the current USB Loader GX code and add a generic file browser class to it to handle wads (and potentially other types of files: mp3, movies??). The ability to download/display graphic is already there. It's a good start. Maybe the USB Loader GX developers can take this on.

yeah but i wanna be able to load wads from a usb also why piggyback on someone elses when the original one would be so much easier to modify. First thing is first though we need to know what the gui should look like.

all the piggybacking will be over as soon as the nand emulation wanin announced is working fine. if it works like expected we can simply redirect every wad installation to a usb-device and will never run out of space.

but still a nice wad manager with gui would be great. i haven't followed the benzin project during the last few month but maybe megazig made some progress with the bannerplayer. he said at tehskeen that he is willing to help with bannerplayback for the system menu replacements. maybe he is willing to help with a gui-wadmanager project too.

as far as i remember crediar was planing to implement wad installation in to his freedom project (could be wrong here) and maybe rolyataylor2 is implementing something similar into his sysmenu-replacement.

Maybe the app could check for a MD5 checksum in a text file that way it would know if the WAD was damaged. That would be easy to do...

Well most of this ideas are cool but also an overkill! Check for malicious WAD? WTF? They're not like viruses! You should know what you download; at most you'll bannerbrick if you don't have a safety net, but what else would happen? A WAD that deleted all of your IOSes? Maybe deleted all your savegames? Come on... where do you get all that stuff!?

Anyway... whatever improvement of the original Wanins application could be done, would be great.

Well first we need the source code to it

ok. i've done the coding for this wad manager in libwiigui. it is able to install wads, uninstall them, load any ios that you have installed ( as long as that ios supports being used like we are using it), read from fat sd, sdhc, usb ( multiple partitions).

what i have added includes (but is not limited to) installing/deleting/copying wads via wifi, 4 wiimote/ GC/CC support, scrollbars, folder browsing, blablabla. what a really need is somebody that is good with graphics. this doesn't mean somebody that has photoshop, or somebody that thinks they are good with graphics. i would like somebody that is genuinely good at computer graphics to PM me if they would like to cook up some images for me and this will be ready for the masses

EDIT>>>>>>>
i guess i could let you know the image requirements...
here are a few quick screenshots to let you know what the general layout is http://www.mediafire.com/?0mw5btxnqww
all images dimensions must be a multiple of 4 or the image won't show up.
for image sizes that i am currently using, just look in the source of usb loader GX or any of the themes for it. the browser is taken almost straight from there. all the prompts are exactly what is in that source. i would prefer if the images for the scrollbar and browser were the same size as it takes a bit of work to change the scrollbar behavior if it is made any taller/shorter. the other buttons can be any size as long as it doesn't have a remainder when divided by 4

I am working on the graphics of this Wad Manager GUI for giantpune. It is looking pretty slick. I will definitely have a huge chunk of the graphic work completed by tonight. Expect a release soon!
