Has anyone developed a GUI WAD Manager?

If not, I would really like to see something that Sorts Alphabetically, has some sort of Preview Image, show WAD Title, and displays Block Size. I'm thinking it could pull this from either the WAD file itself, or an XML file!

Also, during installation, it would REALLY be nice to have a progress bar!

Below, I have provided a quick sketch of my vision...

*** MAIN WAD MANAGER SCREEN ***
gui_wadmanager.jpg

*** WAD MANAGER INSTALLATION SCREEN ***
gui_wadmanager_installing.jpg

Someone please help my dream become a reality!

Anyone else like this idea??

Ah this would be awesome.

Another Idea:

A prog where you can browse through the installed channels and delete then without the Wad.

WadID
like i said wadID is the only way, the image is a deffo no go, but wad ID displaying the blocks etc is possible easily, unsure if source is available, don't even know who done it*

QUOTEI don't know if you can read a banner from a WAD through homebrew
No you can't, unless it was some sort of manager that unpacked it on the fly, and shows the banner.bin image? and doesn't touch any of the files inside app etcetc
be hard for imaging, but IDing should be ok, with Wad ID or similar..

Well... I have a couple of ideas...
[*]If the GUI WAD Manager would be Internet accessible, using the WadID, you could pull a corresponding image from a server somewhere.[*]If the GUI WAD Manager would parse the directory for .WAD files, couldn't it also parse for a corresponding .JPG, which has been named the same?

Example "wad" directory::

Lost_Winds.jpg
Lost_Winds.wad
Wild_West_Guns.jpg
Wild_West_Guns.wad
World_Of_Goo.jpg
World_Of_Goo.wad
Do you think this would work?

What you need is to have WadManager display the amount of blocks left on your Wii and how many blocks each wad is.

thats really the only thing missing from wad manager. thumbnails and a progress bar arent really needed, in my opinion.

Yeah, the thumbnails aren't needed, but look nice. The progress bar, however, I would really like to see. Even the HBC has progress bars! And, yes... the Block Size check is a "must have". No more waiting 5 minutes, just to have the installation fail!

I too have wondered why this hasn't been done yet... even if its mostly just a cosmetic improvement. I also don't know why the WAD Manager isn't simply integrated into the homebrew channel. I'm hoping something like this will eventually be done.

I think you know why! NEVER HAPPEN!!! Do Team Twiizers support Piracy...erm NO, Would they still implement it in a HBC, No chance in hell as Vince McMahon would say, will we end up with Source for the HBC, doubt it*

Progress Bar isnt needed.

With Wad Manager, it shows which part of the wad its currently installing.

Homebrew Wads are all in 3 parts:

First the ticket id is installed then:

00 = Channel Banner/Icon/Sound
01 = .DOL/.ELF File that launches the app
02 = Im not sure what this is actually.

HBC is by team twiizers, who don't support anything that might lead to piracy. They wouldn't integrate wad manager, which is made by a completely different person. o.o

Different pronunciation of Tomato

Breaking! Team Twiizers does support piracy! At least to pretty much the same degree as WAD Manager. You have to be the one to install copyrighted WADs just like in HBC now you are the one deciding what app to run.

With that said I do understand the point both of you made, and of course agree that that is exactly the only reason it hasn't been done YET! I guess we just have to wait for a less hypocritical twiizersesque coder to figure it out.

"Can't we all just get along?" I didn't mean for this thread to turn into a Piracy vs Non-Piracy debate. I simply would like to see a more user-friendly version of WAD Manager.

So, whether it is Homebrew, or a backup, is there anyone close enough to Waninkoko, to pass along this idea/thread?

Thanks!

Latest Switch 2 leak says it will have a LCD, not OLED, run most games 40fps max, and only be 1.5 tflops handheld, 3 tflops docked. That's less than the steamdeck at 1.71 handheld, 3.1 docked.

  • console @ console:
Switch 2 LCD is about like TN type compare to old Nintendo Switch LCD before. Also games running on 40 FPS look not good for us and people. 60 FPS are best for normal everyday gaming. That's weird. I think should not buy Switch 2 because it like Switch 1.5 something like that. Little improve but not major improve. I think going to skip it.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea that's just rumored but not sounding that impressive for a next gen upgrade. Of course Nintendo is very good at optimization of their games to play well, but for a $400+ 2025 console I expected a little better. Even a $299 2020 Xbox Series S has 4 tflops.

I thought it was supposed to be on par with an xbox 1 in power, why is it running most things at 40fps lol
  • Anrei @ Anrei:
in terms of power I thought it was a 2.0 compared to the switch man 40fps sounds whack is there poor optimisation or something?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Just rumors/ leaks. We will find out in a few weeks. But yea prob way underpowered to save battery, for longer playtimes, like Switch 1 is.
