Just wanted to mention that it would be possible to get the banner and all, although definitely not easy... would have to extract the WAD and grab the opening.bnr file, then unpack the u8 to get the banner.bin, then unpack that u8/LZ77 to get the animations (brlan, etc) or just images in the tpl maybe (if you want it simple), then render those. There's scattered code here and there to do most of this actually, but it's in all different types of languages and theres other barriers as well.
If anyones interested they can get the info and example code here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Opening.bnr

(To be clear, I have no intention of doing this project.)

or simply waiting for benzin to be ported to the wii to display animated banners in wii-homebrew

Okay to clear some things
Benzin converts brlyt and brlan files to xml files and the other way around and nothing more and like AlexDP already said you can already show the pictures without using benzin.
(Very much extracting and converting the tpl to a PNG or whatever)

So it´s not simply take benzin and show animated pictures.

PS: Making a GUI for this with libwiigui is really simple i already made a simple test

If it goes online it could connect to a server, download a constantly updated database of WAD ID's and stuff to check if they're malicious basically acting like some sort of an antivirus/antimalware tool in its own, if the Wii for whatever reason can't go online then updates should be done manually.

A lot could be done, in fact we could have a whole fully functional WiiOS and it doesn't even have to be Linux based or anything, and I can see it happening in he future, we just need new people in the scene who don't get all butthurt whenever piracy is being mentioned.

benzin is a compilation of bannertools. one of it is bannerplayer which will enable displaying animated banners on pc i guess.

and more to come:

QUOTE(Screemer @ May 1 2009, 12:04 PM) nice to see that people start to use benzin. next step with benzin would be a possibility to display banners in homebrew.
Benzin won't do that, there's another project working on that, and 'we' can already display static banners(Yeah I can on my Wii) in homebrew.

heh. benzin doesn't do that "now".

Edit: I forgot, there's the start of a banner player in the benzin git. hehe

I´m aware of this

.
But like megazig said the start of the banner player

. Take a look into the source and possibly you will see what i mean

.
Anyway like already i said you can already show the banners but at the moment without animations.

@nIxx... So does this mean someone is working on "WADManager GX"? If so, I would LOVE to help with the graphics!! Please contact me, if I can help!

Thanks!

We basically need to combine the code of Wad Manager and AnyTitle deleter, so that you can uninstall without having the Wad. AnyTitle Deleter could also use online database lookup.

this has been done, its called channel file manager beta and it is made by cashman, and it may even be open source.
combine its features with the newest wad man 1.4 mods, add some libwiigui, bam, its christmas.

something like homebrewbrowser just for wad´s would be awesome

where you can see all available mplayer ce channels and all the other progs as channels

if you want xmas... then how about a way to run wads/content without installing to wii internal mem first... ie run like usb loader
