Not really. I mean DS compatibility is a good parallel to PS2 compatibility but camera support isn't. The cameras already built in. If they made it unusable then it'd make no sense. They took away the hardware itself in newer PS3 models so they could keep the price down. They're already selling Slims on a loss, putting in PS2 compatibility (which required another chip or something) would just jack up the price. I don't really see an issue with the PS2 compatibility removal as a used PS2 is like $60, so usually buying a Slim and a PS2 is still cheaper than buying a $400+ backwards compatible PS3. Plus I don't buy new consoles to play old games, I buy new consoles to play new games. OtherOS they removed to cover their asses but the PS2 compatibility was to help keep the price down, which is far from a tragedy.

Why? Most games didn't run that great anyway, and besides they do technically still have backwards compatibility as any PS3 can play PSX games disc or PSN. You should rephrase that in the future. Not to mention then all you would hear is little kids whining about the price being so high like before anyway.

Is there a fund to supply Graf with tools and PS3s? If there isn't, we should start one.

Totally agree here. Considering the price of the PS3 originally taking out PS2 compatibility had to be done to cut costs.

Just because George Hotz went to South America does not mean he used donation money. There's no evidence of this whatsoever. He had a vacation booked so he went there.
