I have an SSD 512 gb, inside are 2 partitions one EXT4 for linux, another is NTFS for windows ( and another two other secondary partitions)
After plugging this drive into another pc, windows, I can't access the NTFS partition now, I lost the GPT table it says, using recuva or Ease US data recovery , the file system is intact, I don't wanna start from scratch by formatting this drive ( unless necessary)
if there is any trick to restoring it without format, please help.
the linux partition is working fine, might have to restore grub though :/
heard that from grub rescue, there is a way to restore the gpt table.
please help

Sounds like your only option will be to use data recovery and recover the files to another drive. Once that's done you can reformat and copy the files back from your recovery location.

If the partitontable is corrupted get for a fix TestDisk and follow this Guide to restore the partition table inside the MBR or GPT.
  • Quick guide : Run Testdisk -> [Create] -> Choose your drive -> [Intel] for MBR or [EFI GPT] for GPT -> [Analyse] -> [Quick Search] -> press Enter -> If all partitions are displayed choose [Write] else use [Deeper Search] -> Quit Testdisk

By selecting [write], I m just reapplying the old partitions back ? no risk is taken ??
I'll wait for your answer @Sypherone

This tool is extra for this case.
For backup and restoring porpouse, the information of the partition table is also stored in other sectors on the partions which testdisk uses for restoring the original MBR or GPT.

For testing porpouse i manipulated the MBR, hided the drive with Ustealth and/or deleted the hole information inside the MBR . And it restored the information everytime and the drive could be used normal again.
MBR Recovery test with Testdisk

Try MiniTool Partition Wizard from MediCat and/or the other recovery tools on the MediCat drive.

That tool set will help you a lot.
Windows won't let the installer script execute, says it might contain a virus or smth, tried every trick, it won't install.

This can't restore the original C drive

And this MediCat won't install, at first the script started running, now the windows defender is all going crazy, it wont allow it to run, i tried to disable real time protection, its already off and for some reason wont turn on.

its done via safe mode ...
testing now

Ya, because your running Win on it which is accessing it. The drive needs to be unmounted. This can be done be running e.g. Linux from USB stick then running Testdisk.

Or yes, can be tryed per safemode

Nope, I'm using another pc, and the drive is separated from the running operating system.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
