Can it be used as a passcard? For example, a G6 lite?
It works as a PassCard in PassMe mode.

We don't have a G6 Lite to test the PassMe mode with so we can't report on that. But the M3 doesn't work, and the M3 and G6 are made by the same people so the G6 working is a 50/50 chance really.

The games you mentionned work fine on our DS-Xtreme!
Do you wish to see photographic evidence?
biggrin.gif

Maybe you have a problem with your own roms, or maybe you turn your DS off after 1 second (while sometimes games can take up to 5 seconds to load - probably due to sav decompression and eeprom flashing?).

yeah DS-X team better start fixing the games soon because the compability gets lower every day.
They are working on it, I can tell you that. They are!
Can't tell you much more info at the moment but from what I know, I'm confident that when the next update is released you will be entirely satisfied

That blows! And thanks to gbatemp's glowing review of the ds-x, I have one coming in the mail. It's like I said in a comment for that review, this site trys too hard to "try to like" the products they review, giving poor products ok reviews, and ok products great reviews, while ignoring or excusing flaws (ie "updates will soon take care of this problem!!"). It's almost like they want to avoid offending the companies that were "nice enough" to send them free units for review. And that's precisely why professional review outfits (zdnet, consumer reports) buy their own review units.

IMHO, Gbatemp should have taken more time/precautions before verifying the manufacturer's claim of near 100 percent compadability.

The DS-Xtreme scored 9.5 out of 10 because it deserved it. Not because the manufacturer offered us a free sample. Just take a look at our review of the Neo2 SD for example. It was shit and got a shit review.

We don't ignore flaws, otherwise we wouldn't have reported that Pokémon didn't work and that the M3 wasn't compatible with the PassMe mode etc...

We can't test every single ROM out there extensively. That's just not feasible. We did test a lot already and what we tried except from Pokémon diamond worked flawlessly.

And also, we can't afford to buy our own units for test because we run this site for fun. We get zero profit out of it. And then we have to pay stuff like IPB licence and hosting fees ourselves.

Next time you're reviewing a cart for 14 hours straight until 4am in the morning I hope that will help you understand.

I'm not saying you guys are purposely lieing to us and intentionally hiding stuff, I'm just saying that sometimes I detect a bias or an unwillingness to probe farther (every time I read "updates will fix this problem!", I cringe because that's bullshit excuse making). 100 percent compadability is a powerful claim, and one that could potentially cause dozens, even hundreds, of your members to buy their products. I'm saying that maybe it would have been worth it to take the time to investigate that claim farther.
But I'm not going to get into it with anyone now because I don't have my ds-x yet. You say that it scored a 9.5 because it deserved it. I guess i'll find out soon enough.

I'll wait for AceKard. Moonshell now works on it, so homebrew won't be a problem at launch.

The quality and incompatibility issue really scares me away from DS-X.

Just got mine today. Boy was I excited, running from the post office, plugging it into my macbook, dragging and dropping Pheonix Wright 2, Tales of Tempest, some Kanji software and - of course - Brain Training. I fire up the DS, select the cart. The first thing I notice is that the green battery light is flashing, just like in sleep mode. I bit of a downer, but hey, small price to pay for 100% compability right? Couldn't be more wrong. None of the games above worked, and when i removed the cart and later put it in agian I the DS didn't find it. Turns out due to poor maunfacturing I have to apply a small piece of paper to the cart as i put it in the slot in order for it to becom readabe again.

In my opinion the DS-X in it's current state is not worth investing in. The promised 100% compability ends up looking like a lie and in the end of the day all I have bought is potential, badly manufactured at that.
OK so you admit it has a fault from manufacturing but then complain about compatibility!?
wacko.gif

To continue on with this fine tradition I would like to state that EZ4 has 0% compatibility as I have received a bad unit with malfunctioning memory leading to no save backup.
I'll ignore the other 6 units I have used that work fine as that is obviously the trend here. You seem to be ignoring the review unit experience and others reports..

I understand you are upset and dissatisfied but if you have bought from a reputable dealer they should replace your faulty unit no worries.

I'm not trying to attack you but these things do happen, I hope you can get it sorted out quickly.

Nothing that says Acekard won't experience the same things, only time will tell. I personally am waiting on seeing the acekard but am skeptical of the whole slot1 option so far from all that I've seen.

Can someone else try Another Code - Two Memories (E) and Wario Ware - Twisted! (E) on their DS-X to see if they work? They didn't on mine...
I also had some save errors on English Training - Have Fun Improving Your Skills (E).
A second opinion would be appreciated.

I'm waiting for the best slot 1 solution to come out. You can't expect it to work perfectly. I can remember when I first got the supercard SD and it wouldn't run games over 32 Mbits and you needed a DS game in the slot to save. You also needed the DS game to have the correct save size to save. At the moment I'm sticking with the supercard, after all rushing to buy the new products you maybe buying another Neokey.

I got my DS-X Monday and so far I've experienced no problems. Every single ROM I've played works fine with no slowdowns or problems. I think some people just got faulty units, but I'd say the number of those cases is very minimal compared to the total number of DS-X's made. There's always some units that don't work in a batch of hundreds (maybe even thousands), keep things in perspective people, and don't give the DS-X flack 'cause a few people are experiencing problems (which, in my experience, could be caused by user incompetence).

I know that it would have been impossible to test every possible ROM out there, but has anyone with the DS-X tried any of the DS Opera Browser carts? Do they work?

It's been confirmed to work many times. The Opera browser ROM on a slot-1 device, with the RAM expansion pak in the GBA slot = Works.

Objection! Phoenix Wright 2 works perfect for me, so you either don't know what you're doing, or you got a faulty DS-X. I really have no interest in any of the other games, but I'm willing to bet they work too. Did you try any of the games that actually DID work in the gbatemp review? If none of those work, then chances are you got an unlucky faulty DS-X, or maybe it is incompatible with your DS firmware or something.

where did we say that they had 100% compatibility?
we detected some compatibility issues in our tests and reported them.
the reviews are our "official" word.

now on a personal basis, and being in contact with the DSx team, I can tell you that they are getting this fixed!
it's a fact, not a promise.
