Not everyone with glasses can or want to wear contacts.
This is such an awesome idea but that video everyone's excited about will not be what the product is right now. The video is even called "One Day..." This is what they want to get it to, at the moment it will be a very finicky audio interface or a touchscreen you need to use on your arm to interact.

OMG an actual breakthrough with this technology!! This is the technology that I have wanted more than ANYTHING else within my lifetime and it's great to see it's finally making some progress. (Of course, the technology I dream of is more advanced; contact lenses instead of glasses, being able to actually control the 'screen' with your eyes / mind and a fully integrated PC. I actually believe that this would be possible within my lifetime and my life will be complete the day I get some.)

"One day", when the hardware you need for that kind of on-the-fly image processing fits into a glasses frame and doesn't chew through a battery charge in five minutes. And the always-on internet connection required doesn't exactly prolong battery life either.

As for the people who need glasses, they could just fit the device frame with prescription lenses. The most obvious design would be for the device to look like regular glasses, and project images onto the lenses. It should be easy to factor the need to replace the lenses into the design, so that you can fit it with prescription and/or tinted glass.

That's pretty cool. I probably would get one, but not use it for much. Also, wouldn't this distract people as well? Like, say you're driving and you all the sudden get reminded of an important blah blah or something, you look up, and BAM! Get t-boned by a semi truck. Could be dangerous...

Saw the YT trailer, very impressive and of course amazingly smooth. No way it's this smooth already, just didn't seem realistic enough....

Also, I guess you have to have an internet connection at all time?

All that can be done with apps and a 3G/4G connection and GPS.

This is something I'll hopefully have in about 20 years from now, let's hope I only need to start wearing glasses then!

haha yeah, I guess that makes sense. But I think you'd have to talk to the glasses a lot more.
It's pretty cool though.

Get a combadge - you will look like a total geek instead of a mentally ill - except for the dumb masses (remove the m to taste) who cannot appreciate geekery and trek.
