So with Stadia right around the corner and the first few reviews hitting the internet I thought it is time for a Stadia Thread.

From what I gathered the reactions are mixed but mostly negative:
    - Picture quality seems not to be the greatest. The compression Google uses makes the picture look much "softer" without the sharp details one can experience on the Xbox One X / PS4 Pro, at least on 4k settings.
    - While Google boasted about 4k/60fps most games right now do not reach that level. The best example is one of the three Tomb Rider games which offers a Performance and a Quality Mode. Quality means: Native 4k locked at 30fps while performance mode locks the game to 1080p@60fps. RDR2 on the other hand only upscales to 4k and runs with an internal resolution of 1440p@30fps. Destiny 2 is locked at 1080p@60fps and uses upscaling to provide a 4k picture. This is, at least for me, one of the biggest letdowns of Stadia, since I was under the impression that *all* games would support 4k@60fps. Well, I won't need a new 4k TV for now I guess?
    - Input lag...some say it is "barely noticeable", others are talking about Stadia beeing literally "unplayable" (0.5s+ latency). Hope for the best but prepare for the worst :/
    - Load times are in fact much faster than on console / gaming PCs

Keep in mind that this is a "soft launch" - right now only people that bought the founders edition / premiere edition can play on Stadia. The public release is estimated for early 2020.

What do you think of Stadia? Do you want to give the service a chance? Or do you see no future in game streaming as a service?
I hope to get my invite code at the end of the day to do some tests on my own. I see this service as a good alternative to upgrading my PC on a regular basis, especially since I don't play that much on PC anymore, but I want to experience Cyberpunk 2077 with the best possible quality. Stadia will (hopefully) deliver that experience.

the future of failure is now
paying full price for games you don't own plus a monthly subscription fee LOL yeah ok Google

Google is destroying itself , the whole thing is one giant dumpster fire

they wreckd their search with all their PC BS and altering and deliberately breaking their own algorithms
    same with YouTube
and now they are going to completely destroy YouTube come Dec 10th

they outright admit they will just terminate not just your YouTube account but YOUR ENTIRE GOOGLE ACCOUNT if they dolt like something you say or do or if you are not "commercially viable"
whatever TF that means (deliberately vague on purpose so they can have plausible deniability and get rid of anyone they want for any reason or for no reason at all and turn that dying platform into something resembling cable TV or NF)

who would ever hand Google their money and trust them to not terminate their stadia account for something they said or did in a game Google didn't like

I don't think it'll succeed. What it needs is a killer app : that one exclusive game that otherwise couldn't be possible. A game that fully tells the world 'screw your skepticism because I Am Here To Stay'.
The lineup isn't bad, but it's more of what the market is already offering. It could have worked if it was better somehow, but... It isn't. So it better get its act together or risk becoming a niche product.

No, the streaming is and will not succeed. Surely, 3rd part might support it for a while then abandon it. Nah, I won't buy it anyway. Streaming sucks to be honest with you.

Unless they fix the input lag to be virtually undetectable, this is not going to take off.

I can forgive every other issue with it. But I most certainly cannot play with input lag that my senses can easily see it's there.

Problem is, fixing that probably requires the hugest investment Google has ever undertaken, and that still doesn't guarantee it will work for everyone..

So yeah. Stadia is a complete Dumpster Fire right now.

The input lag, and picture quality are problems. but the biggest problem is paying for games. Stadia only had to release with a decent library of free AAA PC games for a monthly subscription and it would have been successful.

Why the hell are they charging full price for games you can get physically, and for like, half the price? You can't even keep them once Stadia is killed off in a couple of years. "Netflix of gaming" my butt.

I disagree. Not that it should be paid, but I don't mind paying for a game if it works flawlessly across all my devices with no lag input and picture quality.

But I do mind if I can't play a game in an enjoyable way, even if it's free.

Full retail price for games you can get elsewhere for cheaper? If they were 20 bucks a piece, sure, but 60 is just BS.

    It is. It's absolute BS.

I'm just saying, for me and possibly others, I'm willing to pay that if it means I'll have the game to play anywhere, on the go, with no issues.

As it stands, we get neither. No free games, and no enjoyable experience. Everyone loses with this thing.

And there are people out there who genuinely think this is perfect, infallible, etc. Streaming games as being the only future is a future I can do without.
