Hi, I just got my esp32-s working for running goldhen without having to move from the coush (I hate moving)
And it works ok. Bit slow but faster than me so can't complain.
Now I simply have it plugged it in using a normal USB cable and it looks... Meh (defenetly better than me, but I don't own a mirror so that's cool)
Have anyone done something to make it a bit better looking? I tried to make a custom wire using a USB A and a PCB USB C board, but it crashed, probably because I only used 5v, ground and d+,- and not all the fancy cables in a USB 3.
I was thinking about using a 90 bend that uses a ribbon cable and go under the PS4. But I wanted to check if anyone have made some cool solutions I could get inspired by.

I kinda liked the look of the custom board on AliExpress that looks like a little DS4 sticking out of the USB port, haven't tried it tho.

A lot of mods have been done with esp32 mini, internal or external. What is your model of PS4 ? Phat, Slim, Pro ? .

I’ve been through Pi Zero 2w, (modded as a dongle) , Esp S2 mini, (modded as a dongle), to finally ended up with a very nice esp32 dongle from Ali 🙄

was always afraid of reliability. too thin for me.

Sandisk Connect?
All depends what you want to do.

My dongle costed me 5 euros, and is perfect for the jailbreak.

Tried to fit the esp32 S2 mini in my usb hub, but not enough space for the pro model, so sticking with the dongle from Ali
Pi Zero 2W and esp32 S2 mini being used on other projects now

That dongle looks pretty good. I would like it not to stick to much out on the room. Was considering a 90 degree USB A - C adapter but can't find a male - male

Works perfect (@Leeful Ps-Phive! 9.00 esp32 Host) with Led on when inserted /powered and jailbreaking .

You should be able to find on Ali an adapter.

I don’t keep my dongle connected, so doesn’t really matter for me.

When I know I have few days of playing available, I’m on rest mode.

I’ve seen a mod with an Esp32 S2 mini, wired in the Back USB port , where there’s a lot of room to fit the pcb.

So enclosed in the PS4, and with a sleeping mode programmed, to avoid S2 mini to be always on with no need and overheat, (as back rear usb port is next to hot air flow).

I got the Phat model so I got no back USB unfortunately. I would prefer keeping it plugged in at all time just to keep it simple, is there any downside to keep it in at all time?

Nope, unless you don’t setup a sleeping time on your host (for those who allow it), to avoid excess heat as USB ports are always powered, unless you define a shutdown on the PS4 Power Management, but not very convenient if you use an extended storage or an App2usb drive.

If you interested , I can link you some mods made with esp32 S2 mini in a usb hub for Phat.

I tried that on a usb pro hub, but didn’t have the right tools to do it properly, very little space to fit and wire so that It can be “assumed “, as a hidden chip for jailbreak.

So I gave up and ordered a dongle 🙄, even if everything was working flawlessly with Pi Zero 2w modded or Esp32 S2 mini modded.

I might try again the mod on usb hub, just for the fun…🤣

I would love to see the mods. I usually just power off the ps4. Honestly I don't play to much. Kid and work steal most of my spare time

Yeah, I know the “feeling “, 🙄…, I will send you a PM for the mods, or maybe start a thread, 🤔

There’s already one about modded dongles, but not one that I know about other mods using Esp32, in the PS4 or in a Hub
