The Wii is made for these kind of social events IMHO, you have a plethora of quality titles to chose from.
The ones I've used are Mario Kart Wii, Tetris (WiiWare and recently a full fledged game), Boom Blox (both titles, amazing games), Wii Sports (introduction game) and NSMB Wii.
