Hi,

So, I'm going to try a pokemon game to see if I like them. What are the differences between the diamond and pearl versions ? only the pokemons you can catch ?

I hope I'm not too old to realy enjoy those games ;-)

Thx for the replies.

yeah the only differences are that some pokemon appear and others do not
and the 1st legendary you encounter is either Dialgia [diamond]or Palalkia [pearl](sp?)
but you might as well play platinum cuz its more iterated and newer

Ok, maybe i'll put the platinum on my card then. What are legendary pokemons ? sorry, I've never watched the show, way too old for that, but it looks like a solid rpg ;-)

ah its k
legendary pokemon are pokemon that there are only 1 of in the game
they normally have unique moves, wicked high stats, and/or abilites
platinums main legendary is Giritina (for example has a unique item that increases the power of some of it's attacks and transforms it)

A "legendary" is akin to a "boss" in other games, only in pokemon you can catch them (which is harder than normal pokemon) and use them, you usually only get one chance to catch a certain legendary each game (and it's usually a storyline plot that brings you face to face with it), so make sure to save before you fight it.

Get Platinum, it's an updated version of Diamond and Pearl. As for the legendaries for the game, you'll see:
Palkia Lv 70 Dragon/Water-type(Pearl's Legendary, and is Lv 43 in Pearl)
Dialga Lv 70 Dragon/Steel-type(Diamond's Legendary, and is Lv 43 in Diamond)
Giratina Lv 43 or 45 I think Dragon/Ghost-type(Main Platinum Legendary, and has an alternate form when holding the "Griseous(SP?) Orb")
Rotom Lv 20 Electric/Ghost-type(it's technically not a legendary, but it's battle intro and music are the same as legendary battles)
Cresselia Lv 50 Psychic-Type(Roaming legendary, you never really know when you're going to see it, and it runs the first chance it gets)
Azelf Lv 50 Psychic-Type(Part of the game's Trio)
Uxie Lv 50 Psychic-Type(Part of the game's Trio)
Mespirit Lv 50 Psychic-Type(see Cresselia, Part of the game's Trio)

I think that's it I think, if I missed any someone let me know. There's more legendaries for this generation of Pokemon, but none you'll see without a special event that's already past. Nintendo really milked this gen for legendaries.

Diamond is the better choice between the two.

He has enough time.
Yah well the story would take that long, but training, catching all the legends and the extras eat up a lot of time imo

It doesn't mean that on 14th March he drop kicks the game into the dustbin, for gods sake.

He can try for 100% ANYTIME after that too.

I completed Platinum in about 3 days and it was in Japanese too so he's got enough time before HG/SS to complete it. But I would strongly recommend getting one or both HeartGold and SoulSilver when they are released.

HeartGold and SoulSilver are the best Pokémon games, so I highly recommend you play those when they come out. Play Platinum to hold you over until then; there's no use playing Diamond or Pearl when there's Platinum.

Try Pokemon Platinum Enhanced (a modded version of Pokemon Platinum). I just started playing it, but it seems really good. Trading evolutions have been replaced, you can catch all 493 pokemon, and the difficulty of the game has been amped up in various ways.

Here is a thread with more info

The regular games are much more fun than any of the modded versions out there. In my opinion, the modded games are there for when you get bored with the normal games, not vice versa.
