So, I'll be my first Wii U premium 32Gb Monday/Tuesday, and I'm having some thoughts.

I was watching this video:
I watch his videos regularly, and he seems legit.

When he exploits his console, I noticed that he used a 2Gb SD card.

The tutorial found here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-community-noob-guide-to-wii-u-hacking.451297/

States that I need a card twice the size of my system nand (32Gb system = 64Gb SD card).

Now I got confused... Wich is accurate?

Next up is CFW, or rather Wich one to use?

I'll be using my Wii U to play games (disc, digital and backup), and I love to have the option to tinker.

I've read about the rednand corruption etc, but didn't really get any real insight as to how high the failure rate is. I mean, on my PS3 I run rebug as it gives me a lot more options to tinker with, so for the Wii U, rednand seems like the better choice.
Taking into consideration that I have read it could potentially be corrupted, I want to weigh the statistics before going that route.

So all in all, I need to know what's the most stable, feature rich and preferred steps and firmware to choose?

It only needs to be twice the nand size if you're going to make a nand backup. It's recommended that you make a backup, however, you need a hardmod if you ever need to restore the backup in the future.

You don't need to mess with rednand either. That's more or less just for developers (unless you are one).

ninja'd by ry755. :D Go visit the link he posted. Best guide there is. I recommend using plain old haxchi for CFW.

Yeah, I was going to follow that tutorial. Still needed to get some thoughts cleared up.

About redNAND... It seems like my cup of tea, but seems likely to get corrupted. But if I understand everything correctly, it shouldn't corrupt my sysnand..? That should mean I could just re-install redNAND again, no?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Using the mind map in that guide, I choose Yes every time, but No at the final choice. That seems right?

Pros and cons:
  • Loadiine GX2: Great menu system for games. Will play almost every game with updates and DLC and injected VC titles. Cons include things like it taking a few extra taps to get into. It will not allow online play and sometimes games run slow.
  • WUP Installer Method (formally known as "The Brazilian Method"): Games can be played from the Wii U main menu. Allows for online play. Games can be installed on either internal memory or USB. Free DLC is NOT available with this method on unpatched sysNAND but DLC that you've paid for works just fine. VC games are NOT installable with this method unless you use a CFW with sigpatches (CBHC, Haxchi, or redNAND)

This part get me a bit confused.
What is a unpatched sysNAND? If I install HaxChi, I'm basically on a CFW, no?

And is it possible to install and run games from SD card using WUP installer method?

Yeah that part is a little confusing. If you're running Haxchi, then you're on patched sysNAND.
It's basically saying that you need to be running Haxchi (or something else that patches sysNAND) to install DLC for free

Ok, almost got me thinking I needed to install a different FW. :D

So far, it seems most likely that I'll be going the HaxChi standalone route.

Can I install and run games from SD card using WUP installer method?
Or use both WUP and Loadiine?
