This in from PAX East:
Gearbox has officially confirmed at a PAX East panel attended by Eurogamer that it will be developing its third Borderlands game (the Pre-Sequel was created by 2K Australia) after it wraps up production on Battleborn and its DLC.

"It's no secret, obviously there's going to be another Borderlands," Gearbox CEO and president Randy Pitchford said.

Battleborn art director Scott Kester said he will be the art director on Borderlands 3.

"We don't even know if we're going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know," Pitchford added.

So, with 2K Australia doing Pre-Sequel, can Gearbox step up to the plate and bring a better Borderlands than Borderlands 2 with this planned version? What do you think of this announcement?

Funny enough I was going to come here and say basically the same thing Pitchford said.
Iconic, successful, popular series? Of course it's getting a sequel.

So, erm...isn't that pre-sequel borderlands 3?

I'll most likely skip this. Borderlands was certainly fun, but 2 was pretty much exactly the same (which is not really a surprise: the first already had roughly infinite guns, which sort of lowered the joy of "more guns" in 2). I hadn't heard much different from the pre-sequel, so I thought it was just a standalone. Am I wrong in this? I honestly don't know...

We all "knew" it was comming. I can't wait.
I am still playing borderlands 2, and i got fucking raped while trying OP4.
I wonder how the story is going to be thought. And i wonder what kind of new items will be in the game. I am also wondering how the game will look. Try to compare borderlands to borderlands 2, and you will see what i mean.

Dude...are you serious? 1 and 2 are pretty much carbonbox copies. And even then, it doesn't take a genius to fill in the blanks:

-the story: a tiny excuse to get into the shooting arena. There may be some interesting characters and a shitload of references, but nothing innovative.
(note: this isn't a bad thing. Playing a shooter like this for the story is like watching porn for the background furniture)
-new items: a gazillion variations on the same basic gun principles.
-the game will remain in the cell shaded/cartoony look, because it's pretty much their signature at this point.

Don't get me wrong: I don't want to look down on the game in any way. In fact, I'm sure it'll be more fun than quite a bit of other franchises. But this sort of "I wonder" kind of statements on borderlands honestly makes me wonder if you've played the same games I have.
(note: I finished the first one and probably got around 50 to 75% to borderlands 2).

If you look at Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, they look exactly the same. borderlands looks a bit different from borderlands 2, but the artstyle is different. take a look at the guns for example. even the gun manufacturers is different. Atlas and S&S munitions is an example of manufacturers that is not in borderlands 2. BL2 and BL:TPS has the same manufacturers, and they look the same. the bandit guns in bl2 is the scav guns in tps. it is only a rename.

I have played bl2, a LOT. i have also played The pre-sequel, but i have not yet played the original borderlands.

"Congratulations! Your ability to walk short distances without dying will be Handsome Jack's downfall!"

I must admit, BL2 was the first I played, and it forced a chuckle out of me in some of the worst times of my life. Claptrap especially had me cracking up. I look forward to this release.
