You can't on the DVD5 version, you have to beat Classic Mode a couple times.

Yea, it doesn't get a chance to save what you did.

You can do it without beating Classic mode. Just play each difficulty (2-5) until you beat/fail the first Target Test round (should be the 5th round overall), then once you win/lose it, pause the game and do the code at the top of the screen to return to the main menu. It'll still count.

Also what do I need to do on Event 11, with the IceClimbers and the Yoshis, that one quite confuses me...

B creates more, and you need 6,not 5.

I think there may be other ways to unlock Sonic other than 300 matches.

What I did -
Played and beat classic as Sheik on the hardest difficulty.

Played 26 vs matches.

Beat 8 challenges with 2 players.

Unlocked Falco.

After the next match Sonic appeared.

I don't know why but he did.

Same thing happened to me with falco and sonic but i did nothing else than multi.

Btw, havnt tried it yet. But does classic mode crash at the end credits or can you somehow skip the credits to avoid crashing?

It crashed after thr credits, i'm so sad

You have to beat them in a certain order. Off the top of my head, it should be:
Red -> Pink -> Orange -> Yellow -> Green -> Light Blue -> Dark Blue

Personnaly, I just waited to be off the ship to beat them. I don't think the order is important.
