GBAtemp game of the week- week #8 Egg Mania GBA
8 weeks ago we started a new feature here on GBAtemp known as the GBAtempbook game club wherein we set a game to have a look at and later discuss it. The game or indeed games could be from any of the consoles we typically cover and might be a commercial release or some homebrew and could be a classic title, a hidden gem, something with an interesting mechanic we feel should be known about or indeed a valiant attempt that fell short but should none the less be on your "I once played that" list.[/p]
GBA- Egg Mania
Known as eggo mania in Europe this game hit fairly early in the GBA lifetime. The game itself is a puzzle action game with a a hint of platforming using tetrominos. Tetris and versions thereof are far from the only game to use such devices with other games using them becoming legendary games in their own right in games like Rampart and while this might not quite be up there is does a lot to exemplify handheld gaming (indeed the console versions fared considerably less well among reviewers). The idea of the game is using tetrominos you get to construct a tower although gaps in the tower reduce stability which sets you back if it becomes too much. Arguably not all that much room for mastery compared to some of the other tetromino themed games but could quite happily be said to be easy to learn and has a bit of room to grow some strategy from. If you enjoy this you are also encouraged to have a quick look at the GBA launch title Fortress.[/p]
