<h1>GBAtemp E3 presentation writeups 2011- Sony</h1>.

<div align='center'><img src="http://gbatemp.net/news/e3-electronic-entertainment-expo-logo.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://gbatemp.net/news/Sony-playstation-logo.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></div>

<p align=" " class="none">This is the Sony entry in the GBAtemp coverage of E3.

Sony just finished a presentation at E3 2011 of matters old, current and future plans much like most other players in the computer games industry. This is the GBAtemp writeup of that presentation</p>
<h2>The presentation</h2>

<p align=" " class="none">A montage of some of the games to come formed the start of the presentation. As best we can we aim to split the PS3, Move and NGP (now known as Vita) stuff up but they seem to want to interleave it all so that might be tricky. The presentation started with a 3d montage for the audience that lasted a good 5 minutes but after that it got going. Much like Microsoft with Kinect Sony were pushing Move as hard as they could with just about everything mentioning it in some way.
</p>

<h2>General playstation related events.</h2>

<p align=" " class="none">After a couple of jokes about <strike>hacking</strike> outage it got the serious business of numbers sold and what have you.

Mentions of the existing video and music streaming options in
Hulu
Vudu
MLB tv
Netflix
And alongside this is Cinema now as well as few other entities.

Playstation Suite was announced.
Playstation certified android phones and tablets to get <strike>cut down</strike> representative games in a bid to entice some people towards more conventional Playstation hardware. Now much was said though with it ultimately being left at “more in the future”.

<b>3D stuff</b>
Some new hardware in the form of a Playstation branded 3D display aimed at making “affordable 3D”.
A feature demoed was two players, two glasses, two images (one for each player) on one screen presumably rather than blanking an eye for 3d each alternate plays for the other person.

3D glasses themselves apparently retail solo and should work with a few devices beyond this.

A TV bundle with glasses and a cable as well as Resistance 3 should appear for about $500 at some point.

To go with this some <b>PS3 3D remakes</b> were announced.
One pack
GBAtemp E3 presentation writeups 2011- Sony- which features PS3 remakes of chains of Olympus and ghosts of Sparta which started life on the PSP.

After the the well liked <b>Team Ico games</b>, Ico and Shadow of Colossus are also getting the remake treatment.

Exclusives from EA (mainly DLC and on disc extras).
<b>SSX</b>- Mount Fuji race.
<b>NFS: The Run</b>- 7 extra cars,
<b>Battlefield 3</b>- 1943 added to the disc.</p>

<h2>The games (PS3 section)</h2>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception</b>
Naughty Dog took to the stage to demo the game. Both single player and multiplayer are getting a lot of attention and the demo at least was probably supposed to have attention drawn to the moving game world.
In the end it looked like a perfectly competent third person action game you could have a great time with if you liked that sort of thing.
A fair few animations appeared although only the first level so it remains to be seen how often things repeat and speaking of repetition you get some quick time events.

Multiplayer- beta out June 28th
October- tie in with chain sandwich shop Subway (as in not a demo) competitive multiplayer.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Resistance 3</b>
Insomniac (who announced earlier today that the 360 a platform they now work for) appeared to demo Resistance 3 which appeared to continue the sci fi/alternate history thing the series has going on. Much like most top flight games it appeared to be competently made and will probably be entertaining to play if you need no innovation in your life.

A “Sharpshooter bundle” was announced that comes with the game, gun controller, move controller, motion controller and a camera.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>NBA 2K12</b>
2k Sports showcased their new NBA title after talking up the last entry.
“On the move” leads to a sort of point and shoot affair which we are told will “change the game”. A quick stage demo with a basketball player supposedly of note was performed and it looked like a nice shiny basketball game</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Infamous 2</b>
The sequel to a well liked third person superpowers game. The original clashed somewhat with Prototype when it was released but this appears to have no such trouble. It launches in a few hours apparently and the developers will be “adding a user generated content and PS Move addon in the Autumn”.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Little Big Planet 2</b>
Sony seems to be quite liking this adding things onto existing games (although perhaps not to the point of being able to accuse them of releasing half finished games... title updates). Little Big Planet 2 gets this treatment with an addon bringing both building and playing support to the Move controller setup.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Starhawk</b>
It was all CGI so other than some construction, FPS type play, vehicles, mechs and possible some space combat there is nothing to say</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Sly Cooper- Thieves in Time</b>
More CGI but “coming 2012”</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Dust 514</b>
A PS3 exclusive apparently and it is a console shooter (largely FPS) which connects to PC MMORPG (Eve online) although the extent of such tie ins remains to be seen (Eve online being noted for having a fairly in depth economy). For all that was said there was but a few seconds of gameplay.
Beta at end of year, Spring 2012 for full release

Also something “extending to NGP” whatever that might mean.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Bioshock Infinite</b>
Irrational games found themselves on stage plugging their latest entry in the bioshock franchise and as if they knew lots of CGI would not go down well the entirety of the trailer was in game footage. This game appears to leave the undersea city and goes to a Carnival/circus setting swapping out the palette for something far more brightly coloured in the process.
Move apparently a focus of a sort although not much was said beyond assuring people that your standard swing and token motions are not the order of the day).

On the PS3 at least it is to be bundled with the first game.

Before the segment ended though a <b>NGP/Vita tie in game</b> was announced although no details were given</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Saints Row: The Third</b>
Little was said other than a 15th of November release date and some support for Move.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Star Trek</b>
Based on the new film series it is partly standalone (thinking the sort of story that went with the first matrix games). Third person shooter mixed with some space combat and maybe the odd bit of platforming (gameplay was mixed in with other parts quite nicely).
Co-op features as does Move which apparently has a peripheral shaped to look like a phaser. A PSN network tie in was announced as well.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Medieval Moves</b>- fantasy action adventure. Move exclusive and the only one of the presentation.

There was a tech demo or two last year that showcased some magic and this reminded us of that. Fantasy action adventure is indeed how we might describe it and your weapons are a bow, throwing stars, shield and sword.
Minigames, puzzles and bit of platforming were the order of the day and “1:1 motion control” was claimed which it might be able to live up to</p>

<h2>PSP stuff.</h2>
<p align=" " class="none">Nothing was really said on the original PSP but <b>NGP = Playstation Vita</b>.
“home console like gaming experience in the palm of your hands” being the choice quote there and enough buzzwords that our buzzword bingo game was called off.
Features include dual touchpad (screen and on the back), OLED, dual cameras and augmented reality.

Wifi and 3g models to be available.
In the US at least the only carrier was announced as AT&T only to which the crowd more or less booed or was silent (which given the applause for just about everything else up to and including a passing cloud is fairly telling).
Prices announced later in the presentation were pegged at
Wifi only- $250 USD, €250, 25K Yen
3g- $300 USD, €300. 30K Yen.
No UK prices as yet.

A featured called <b>Near</b> which appears to be something of an enhanced friend list was mentioned although not really elaborated upon. The also demonstrated a little on the <b>"Party"</b> feature, which allows a party-like system available on consoles so you can chat with your friends and join their games.</p>

<h2>Games demoed included</h2>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Uncharted- Golden Abyss</b>.
No TV out was used which was interesting.
The touchscreen saw cries of gimmick- but it worked and did some interesting things. Sony then also stated a traditional control scheme was available for those who aren't a fan of the gimmicks.
Quite a nice rendition of the game and the graphics are very pretty. In the past though the PSP had the criticism that portable games need not be and in fact are better when they are not cut down versions of console games. How this might play out is a debate that will probably continue for years now.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Ruin</b>
“Action based role playing game”
A Diablo clone with two main gimmicks- rather than button killing it is about combos and timing and secondly some measure of linkup between players (you can raid their dungeons and they yours among other similar options).
A <b>PS3 SKU</b> was mentioned with a transfer feature very similar to the “transfarring” feature Konami showcased in their pre E3 show.</p>

<p align=" " class="none"><b>Street Fighter X Tekken</b>
Vita version set to appear alongside previously announced version. Cole from Infamous is to be a guest character and touchscreen controls/extras available. Only a quick demo was shown but it looks like the Vita control layout might make for viable handheld fighting games of the more traditional variety.</p>

<p align=" " class="none">A few other games got mentioned although not a lot can be or was said on the matter.

<b>Modnation Racers</b>
Touchscreen track making was demoed and appeared later in the montage as a sort of weapons/fun kart game.

PS3- vita “crossplay” aka cross platform with <b>Wipeout 2048</b> was announced.

<b>Little Big Planet</b>- geared to take advantage of the vita (mainly via touchscreen).

You are reminded also of the <b>Bioshock tie in</b> mentioned above.

The presentation ended with a <b>montage for Vita</b>. Many known franchises seem to be getting versions/returning. Some 80 games we are told are in development. Other than the games already announced for the system, there were some interesting clips of games such as the Dynasty Warriors franchise running on the system.</p>

That was Sony's presentation. Now over to you.

Pretty decent conference, nothing spectacular, but nothing bad on the flip side either. Did Kevin Butler show up this year though? I didn't seem to catch him if he showed up. ModNation Racers seems to be a direct port of the PS3 version that came out last May. It's a LittleBigPlanet-styled (content creating/sharing) kart racing game. Nothing much was changed in the demo at E3.

Indeed. Today's conferences overall were lacking anything with a big 'boom' effect to it. Here's hoping Nintendo's got an impressive software line-up, and perhaps a console reveal, that can save this year's E3.

I was out busy all day and didn't get to watch any of the coverage but hasn't Saint's Row 2 been out for a long time? Do you mean Saint's Row: The Third? Or is the support for Move the "new" thing for Saint's Row 2 that they showcased at E3?

I'm pretty sure it was Saints Row: The Third.

the price is quite cheap if u ask me. i see multiple graphical games over casual games which is always the case with sony.
on another note, after the recent src code leakage, what would be going behind the stage with sony with tensions and presentation preparation

those who werent excited about sony's conference, look at the official psvita video and be amazed... be very amazed

I was honestly very pleasantly surprised with the pricing for the PSVita. I was expecting at least a starting price of $399. But $249 for that much technology in one machine? YES PLZ. I'm curious as how Nintendo will react (the 3DS being the same price and notably less powerful).

As for the entire E3 conference as a whole, I felt it was tremendously better than Microsoft's. Sony seems to be far more interested in the hardcore than anything.

On a side-note, why must you sound so negative, FAST6191?

Ninty probably lowers their 3ds price.
Also you can have the mostpowerfull machine but if you don't have the IP to fill it up with games ...

Yea same here, nothing really wow me. But pricing the Vita at $249 is a great value compare to 3DS.

QFT.
A bit sad the PSP got no attention at all
closedeyes.gif
I just bought it a few months ago, loving it so far

Hopefully the Modnation Racers is a bit better than the PSP version. I had really high expectations for that game but it ended up sucking. The menu's weren't well made and the racing just didn't feel godo. Still waiting for a Mario Kart DS equivalent on a Sony handheld ......

So it's the same price as the 3DS if bought without 3G? Sweet, 3G is useless if you ask me, atleast here. Might as well get this thing at launch
tongue.gif
Time to save abit more, and I'm done.

Did Sony say anything about the recent hacks? I didn't follow the conference since it was 3am my time -_- The other conferences bored me so much that I felt reaaaalllyyy sleepy at Ubisofts conference, and went to sleep at 1am.

They just started off with saying they were really sorry for all the problems, excused to all the users, developers, .... and assured us that the security would soon be working again.
