Hacking GBA linking?

So I'm on Sakura's latest firmware [1.47] and I tried linking my ruby and soul silver roms...
It launches soul silver but I don't get the migrating Pokemon option, so I assume it means the linkage failed.

Am I doing something wrong, is there another way, does it not work with SS, etc?

There is no current update to the pokepatch to support HG/SS. Otherwise use a second DS to trade with through platinum.
