i have an r4i 3ds gold deluxe. On the wiki, it says it's a clone off of gateway. That said, is it possible to run gateway mode via the r4i 3ds gold deluxe white card?

All Gateway clones (besides DSTwo+) won't work above 4.5 and if you use Gateway files after 3.4.1 there is a risk of bricking. But other than that yes you can use it (assuming it really is a clone, I don't know).
