Hacking Gateway & Nintendo's updates

Hi folks,

I am running Gateway in the latest beta version. When connected to the Internet, the 3DS tells me there's an update available.

Is it safe to proceed with the updates ? i remember doing one a while back and it worked, so I wonder why a new one so soon ?

BTW, since we registred a Wii U it seems we also were granted a code to download Super Mario bros Deluxe on the virtual console (whatever this is), do you believe it is safe to get it ?

Do not update the 3DS System at any time! Only update the Emunnand through Gateway. Else your Gateway will not work. I dont know about Super Mario but as long as you have the code you should be able to download it through Gateway Mode E-shop on 7.1 Emunand.

Downgrade Launcher to 1.2 version. Dont touch anything in GW menu. Just replace launcher. Dont use Emunand. Also, Getaway Update is a joke now, it's utopia

Dude what are you on about??? utopia Don't listen @Aglae Pheryl, GW is fine don't panik, there are a few story's knocking about but if your careful you will be OK.

When I was talking updates, these are of course done on Emunand. I sure don't want to loose my 4.4FW. I'm not too technical but so far I have updated emunand once. I really was just wondering if it was still safe to update once again and especially to download the game they are offering.

BTW, this is out of the subject I know but is Pokemon running at all in Gateway ? Is there a thread stating all the working/non working games in Gateway ?

You should only update through the settings menu on the emunand!

No, sorry, only a physical Pokemon works. Or an eshop one, I guess.

You can update emuNAND, that's fine. BUT you should NOT be using 2.0b2 unless you are aware of the risk. There's a bug in 2.0b2 that can randomly brick your 3DS. It's best to go back to 1.2; 2.0b1 is safe from bricks too but it has a few annoying bugs.

It is an utopia, and GW isn't ''fine'', explain multiple users got a bootrom brick because of it.
If this keeps up, GW will be dead.

If you are on about updating to the new 7.1.0 -15E in Emunand, its OK, as long as you don't ever update the System and as far as my experience so far with Gateway 2.0b2 is OK, sure don't take my 100% word for that cause I think the bricking is just down to people who have gone into diagnostics check (please don't do that). But I think as long as you are on the latest Emunand update you should be fine and E-shop should all work OK mine does. I think Pokemon X/Y works OK on 2.0b2, I don't know myself for sure but I will try anyway and let you know Tbh I think everyone's getting a little bit excited and going over the top about this bricking video also further GW updates and GW in general that is just my own opinion, its a great product I think! I hope I don't get shot down guys for saying that comment

Yes m8 update Emunand I have just done it and all running fine but it still says GWD3 7.1.0 -15E, nothing has changed. Seems the updates are for game updates, I dont know if you can update a game update?. Someone else might know.

It's not. The risk is a LOT larger when using diagnostics, but that doesn't mean it's completely safe otherwise. If you want to take the risk, that's fine, but don't just advise others to do the same because "nothing will happen anyway".

There was nothing major in the update from Jan (7.1.0-15) which it's referring too.
Yes it's safe "as it could be" to update the EmuNAND.
I've download SMBD using the free code just fine.

Do you update Game/Software rom updates though?, can you do that in Emunand? I think that is what he is reffering too, I think he is on about Pokemon X/Y and games updates in general.

Hi there,

Quick note to let you know I updated emunand to 16E yesterday and also downloaded my 'free' Mario game for eshop. Gateway still running fine. So it is pretty safe to do so according to my poor 'newbie' experience. Anyway, thanks for helping and thanks to the Gateway team who made it possible.
