Hacking Gateway Downgrading

because it's as straightforward as :
- put the bluecard content (from gateway installer's package) to the bluecard's microSD
- put blucard on console
- launch the inserted game which is now displayed as cartridge on your 3DS menu
- Launch the Only listed homebrew : do you want to install the exploit? YES!
done. you don't need the bluecard anymore unless you run a DS game.


Extract zip > Copy to SD > put SD to gateway > put gateway to 3DS > launch DS game > launch installer > YES!

What about the Launcher.dat? i thought i was supposed to go to System settings, profile, then DS profile..

and you mean Omega 2.7? I just want to be very careful when I do this

Ah, that's after the NDS exploit is installed, and you don't need the bluecard anymore.

insert the redcard, with microSD and whatever you want on it (ROMS or homebrew or nothing).
Put launcher.dat on the root of your 3DS (big) SD card.
go to 3DS settings > profile > DS Profile. The DS exploit located in the profile will launch the Launcher.dat file.

if the card need an update, it will stop in the gateway menu telling you to update. (plug your 3DS to power adapter, and update gateway by following menus).
if it's already updated, it will auto-launch in gateway mode (ROM mode)
if the red card is not present, it will stop in the gateway menu, you need to launch the gateway mode manually.
if you have NAND or EmuNAND 8.0+ you NEED the red card inserted to boot into gateway mode.
If emuNAND is created and present on your SD card, it will always boot to emuNAND.

Ok..but when I downgrade... All i should do is back up nand and then downgrade with the downgrade file right? I dont worry about Emunand... when I boot into it for the first time.. I can boot into GW mode..and update..

I actually dont know what im doing.. I hope i have a basic grasp at least.

Entering gateway menu will be done before downgrading, so it will need an update before you downgrade.
After downgrading the 3DS, the gateway flashcart is still updated and don't need to be updated.

I dont worry about emunand when I am downgrading from 8.1 to 4.2 right? I just worry about backing up sysNAND and then downgrading correct?

When I am in 4.2.. I am going to use Mario Luigi Dream Team to get to 4.5.. and then when I do the blue card stuff...when I am ready to get into Gateway Mode... then I can worry about Emunand right?

I havent done anything aside from RegionThree.. only doing this cause i wanna give it a shot now since I have a free 8.1 to work on.

HELP! Is there a way to free up space on the system memory not the SD card .The SYSTEM memory because im not able to download DSI ware. It says I need to free up system space. How do i do that? I only have the themes and big blue menu as well as blargsnes cia's on the system memory. PLEASE HELP!!!!

No. You misunderstood me. I said Dsi ware. Those type of game download to the system not the Sd. Is There a way i can download DSI ware to my sd card or anything i can do to free up my SYSTEM memory?

My bad, I haven't played around with DSiWare yet.

what do you call legit?
the best to see if a guide is good is to see user's comment, see if the guide's owner is active in his thread to help users and you'll see if he knows what he is talking about or if he just grabbed random and contradicting information and compiled them to be on the same place.


This is what I tried to do with the 3DS Wiki FAQ, I don't know if a lot of users read it. to much information and nobody will want to read.
To much sticky kill its purpose (users already don't read the few we have).
This thread for downgrading is fine.
The thread for save and emuNAND seems fine (I didn't had time to read it yet, but the few I saw I can tell the user who wrote the guide know what he is telling)

There are already lot of FAQs and Guides in the FAQ section.

Im already in the process of downgrading my console...

Already backed up the nand... now its going through the downgrading... ill wait for the blue card to do the rest of it.. thanks... hoping i get to 4.2

And I am right to believe Mario Luigi Dream Team will get me to 4.5 right? or do I even need it since i i am going to do the DS profile thing? Should I be in 4.2 or 4.5?

You don't have a DS flashcart? you don't need the "blue card", you just need a compatible DS mode flashcart to install the DS exploit.
Then you don't need the Red card to create EmuNAND, but you will need it to update EmuNAND or to launch ROMs.

But it's probably better for you to wait for your gateway package and do things in order.

it's a backup of your 3DS system, you can restore it in case of need.

Thank you.. I just finished doing that. I have it on my PC...but I almost wanted to delete it off the SD card too... but im keeping it there too just in case something happens.. I also deleted the downgrade file. I have a DSTWO here, but yeah... ill wait for the Gateway package..

So basically i need to put the blue card package in the blue card..

Just launch it like a regular game? What will i see when i get there?

and yes put it on the card and launch, you will select the gateway exploit and press A and it will install it.
after that when you want to launch gateway go to the settings/other settings/profiles/DS profiles ( i think)and select it
