Sadly i have to give my cartidge pokemon y away but i learned that i can back up the rom and the rom has my save file on it
but when i back it up with gateway when i try to run it with gateway it tells me that the save data is corrupt!!!
what can i do to save my safe file and my pokemon???
also with other my other games i back up the save and when i pop the rom (that i backed up) it starts up with a new save and doesn't read the backed up one...like a fresh game popped in
any clues?

You can probably do nothing. Since you played on the cart, it uses the post 6.x encryption - which GW does not use. You're outta luck most likely.

I may be wrong though, but most likely the cause.

Depends on how you played it.

A powersaves 3ds might do the trick. Pokebank probably too.

Though saying that, I'm not sure if your save could be restored to another catridge or not using powersaves. Anyone have any experience trying? If you can restore one save to a different cartridge, can you use powersaves to restore to a gateway game? I'm guessing not, but anyone know what actually happens?

That is only possible with a Cyber Gadget and the modded Cyber Gadget Save Editor.

I believe it's to do with save encryption incompatibilities. Pokemon uses 6.x save encryption, whereas gateway uses an older encryption method.

  • Back up your cartridge again
  • Mount it like you would any other ROM (don't launch the game though!)
  • Use savedatafiler to decrypt and extract the save to the SD card
  • Then import the save back to the ROM

The save will be re-encrypted using the older encryption method that gateway uses. At least this is my understanding, I haven't had any firsthand experience.

eeeh i will try it out right now because i have the cia installed now but the pokemon y rom has no save it is implemented into the rom

Except that the app doesn't magically understand every single encryption system ever implemented for 3DS.

If Gateway can't read a save, SDF won't as well.

Just wait for the next GW's update.
