Will Gateway blue card work well as a DS flash cart for playing DS ROMs on a DS? And will it work on DSi or would there be problems with DSi and it would work only on DS? Also could there be any other problems (software, hardware related, firmware version, etc.) with using it on DS/DSi?

It should work yes. As far as I'm aware the blue Gateway cart is just standard R4i cart with a different label.
The only issue you will run into with it, is going to be on a 3DS: I think system firmware 6.3 or something like was the last firmware the blue gateway cart will work on. But DS/DSi should be fine.

the gateway blue card is just like a R4i card, you can use same firmware(boot&install gateway mode) to play NDS games on 3DS, 2DS, DSi, NDSL
