With JKSM you can backup every save file at once and it will just name them the time stamp when you made the backup :-)
When I discovered that feature, I was like "oooh, that's awesome", and then I tried it and didn't understand the timestamp at all. I think it was something like YYYYDDMM, and not only nobody does that but it's also incredibly annoying when transferring to a PC since they are not ordered by date when ordered by name...

edit seems like newer versions of JKSM now use the more logical YYYYMMDD format :D

In Gateway, can I configure one private header to be used with all games instead of patching each game I want to play with the private header?

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as "private header configuring". You can inject the same private header in all your roms, on a Sky3DS or on a Gateway I guess.
But if you're using a Gateway, you have no reason to use private headers if you can use CIAs. And some would even tell you that if you use CIAs, you don't need to use a Gateway.

On the Sky3DS+ you put the private header in the settings.txt file and it is applied to all games. You don't have to modify the ROM.

Not bad. I would have thought it more annoying to do ^^
I never used any private header on Gateway nor Sky3DS (I don't even have a Sky3DS -.-) so I didn't know...

The sentence about CIAs still remains though. No idea why someone would bother with private headers (as easy/hard as it is) if it is not necessary.

You can do a very large library's worth of header injections in the time it takes to install most CIA files. It's nice to just drag and drop 3ds files to an SD card that is easy to get at as well, rather than unscrewing the back of a n3ds or doing wifi transfer, then doing an additional lengthy install process. Having a second SD card can also mean more overall storage I guess.
I've also once or twice had issues with cia titles getting corrupted. Reinstalling the small number of CIA's I use was no trouble, but if I had a huge library of cia's, it would have just been more work to resolve that issue when it did happen, tho it may have been user error in the first place that caused those bad titles.

Overall I just mean to say that my opinion on Gateway is to keep the one you have, but not bother with buying one nowadays if you don't already have one, they're not completely useless.

if ypu can downgrade/CFW, and still don't want cia for your reasons, gateway<
It's far better than sky, you can play hacks/fan translations mods, games that only come out in eshop(.3ds format) and out of region as well.
I Just don't still have mine because it was stolen :/
I had before good public CFW and to test mods/translation wa sgreat to do not have to install the game evrytime XD also not need a big SD on the 3DS, kinda easy to mess with save ... anyway if ou want a 3DS flashcard go for gateway
Unless you can't cfw... so sky is the only option

rather than unscrewing the back of a n3ds
You don't need to do that. Install freeShop using the QR code, then set 100 games in the queue, go to bed, wake up, and have loads of games to play. 10 minute job. Way better than trawling through that ISO site looking for games to download!! You have to find each one individually and also spend time copying them to the SD card you use with Gateway.

If you have a good internet connection and at least a USB2 port on your PC it is faster to use 3ds files. Sure using freeshop is easier but not faster. It will indeed take more time to launch 100 downloads and copy them to SD but I will still play before you. And that's assuming freeshop doesn't crash (I love freeshop but sometimes it's a bit unstable).
Also using a flashcard doesn't write anything in your ticket.db, which is nice for the day when Nintendo decide to check it against its databases (which will probably never happen because I don't know why they haven't done it yet... but hey :) ).

But overall I agree. If you have access to CFW, why would you pay for a Gateway? If don't, well SKY3DS+ is your only solution anyway.

Because I already "wasted" its money buying retail cartridges (more exactly 6, which sums up to R$900 (R$150 each) here in my country, so I sold them all (R$90 each, the usual price that used games sell) and I'm going to buy Gateway (R$540,including Gateway (R$320), dummy game for private headers (R$90, the cheapest it gets) and 128GB microSD (R$120)) to save future money. Also, I don't like my games being on the Home Menu, my 3DS feels somewhat empty without a cartridge on the cartridge slot too and I'm saving microSD storage for eShop-only games, like the new Phoenix Wright one.

If I install a9lh+Luma3DS+Menuhax, can I use Gateway without further installation (excluding copying Gateway's arm9loaderhax, launcher.dat and Gateway launcher .3dsx) like installing EmuNAND?

Except sky3ds isn't just copy pasting games. At least not for the red/blue button version. You need diskwriter to write your roms to the sd card. Besides that there is always the issue of headers because if op wants to play online he'd better get a private header to not get banned.
I meant non-orange when I said non-red; [post edited].

The orange one is just copy/paste - no diskwriter needed with those.

OP isn't really sure what he wants. "home menu, like Sky3ds+ does, cuz I'm also going to buy Pokébank" this statement doesn't even make sense. Pokébank is a subscription application. Sky3DS/Sky3DS+ does not show up anything in the home menu except the game. There is no menu to choose from.

@Hyoretsu is your current version 11.0.33 or not?

In short Sky3ds+ = 1:1 copy of an actual retail cart - the 3ds can't tell the difference and hence it works on all firmware
Gateway is an emunand setup and needs a firmware that you can set up emunands on i.e. 9.x [or an a9lh system] or a system you can downgrade to 9.x

If you can a9lh you should; and then you can use any DS flashcart for DS games and to have something in the slot

I said "buy Pokébank" because Pokébank without its subscription is literally useless. And I said "home menu, like Sky3ds+does" because it shows the icon of the game you're going to play in the home menu, thus enabling the use of apps like Pokébank, unlike NDS flashcards.

I'm on 11.1, but I'm going to downgrade, install a9lh+Luma3DS, leave my SysNAND on 9.2 and an EmuNAND on the latest version. And one of the reasons I'm buying a Flashcard instead of using CIAs is that I'm going to save my microSD's storage for eShop-only games, like the new Phoenix Wright game and Home Menu has a limit of 300 apps, unlike Flashcards.

There's absolutely no reason to do emunand with A9LH+Luma. Just get it setup and update to 11.1 that way.

I'm going to setup EmuNAND for Menuhax, which doesn't always works on the latest version.

If I have a9lh with Gateway's arm9loaderhax.bin, can I use Gateway with the latest firmware (as long as it doesn't changes the home menu)?

I think you are ignoring what people are saying or just don't fully understand what you want. Menuhax is an exploit to boot into homebrew/cfw. It does not work in Gateway CFW nor is there any reason for it. Once you A9LH+Luma your system there is no reason for emunand *AT ALL* your system boots up fully hacked.

Sorry, I didn't knew all the a9lh functionalities yet. So with a9lh installed: it serves as an entrypoint for homebrew (just like browserhax, menuhax, oot3dhax, etc), it enables arm9 and arm11 forever and Gateway+a9lh works normally on latest SysNAND (with Gateway's arm9loaderhax.bin) as long as they don't change the home menu?

(Basically, a9lh concept for dummies)

Essentially, yes. The problem is if you want to use Gateway you have to use Gateway's A9LH which is different than normal =/

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Not sure why you wouldn't just want to install the game onto the system like a digital game though. They still work in the bank

Because I'm saving microSD storage for eShop-only games, Home Menu has a max of 300 apps (I already have 30 with no CIAs installed) and I'm not actually spending any more money buying Gateway than I already spent buying retail cartridges, making me save money in the future by avoiding buying every Zelda and Pokémon games that'll eventually be released. Plus some other games. Also, how is Gateway's a9lh different than normal a9lh?
