This is one of those massive posts where I say, "I won't read the whole thing, I won't read the whole thing," and I end up reading the whole thing.
Yeah, I showed that one to my kid and the whole "was the empty house a dream, or is everything else one?" gave her an existential crisisI had the misfortune of reading that final comic as a child, and I recall having to put it out of my mind. If what the strip is suggesting is true, Garfield is, in fact, alone and abandoned. It even puts the validity of previous events into question, not just the ones that succeed it.
