The gamestop I went to forced everyone to use the Wiimote-Nunchuk combo, which is something I never tried the entire time I had Brawl. I made it to the semi-finals, but I don't feel bad about losing.. the had the entire crowd outside the store cheering for Kirby to win- that was awesome.

What wasn't so awesome was Gamestop. They were jerks about everything and had no idea how to even setup the tournament. Other than some people I met, the experience was rather awful. I won't be going back to that gamestop again. (Though, it's not the normal GS I goto, so..)

awww man that sucks. There were at least some really cool people at mine. There was like this 45 year old dad with his two kids and he was so psyched for the game. then he asked us what characters we were using and my brother says pikachu and lifts up his sweater to show his pikachu shirt. Then the guy starts laughing and he's like, "Oh yeahh?!?!?!" and he bust open his jacket and bam, he's wearing a yoshi shirt!!! it was awesome. The employees working were all pretty nice too so it was an overall good experience

One minute. Wiimote only. Gamestop.
It was a miserable fucking failure. I called earlier that day, and the employee said we could bring our own controllers. When we got there, we got notice that we would only be able to use Wiimotes, and only the starting roster. With items on. I should have left then, but decided to give it a try. I wanted to play Brawl and have fun. But I have never played the Wii before. I thought I would get used to controls pretty quickly, but I didn't. During the whole match, I was like "WTF @_@" I was playing Pit against DONKEY KONG. I took like 30% and he took 150%+. I couldn't fucking end it in a minute. Especially with the awkward controls. I just didn't get used to it. The only good part was that I threw a crate to get the Smash ball XD I used my final Smash, but then there was like five seconds left and it went into Sudden Death. I tried getting down, but I still wasn't used to the Wiimote so he ended up smashing me up =_= And he was happy about it. Fucking lucksack. I'm not bad at fighting games, so I was pretty embarrassed and furious. Also during the match, there was heckling. Like "these guys suck". Hey bitch, I don't own a fucking Wii because Nintendo hates us. I would have said something but I was too busy concentrating and it might have been bad sportsmanship to say anything back. So I just left, no point in staying. There were only thirty people, and the morons running the thing couldn't organize it properly. People were crowding, and I couldn't get out after the match that easily. Nerds are socially inept losers that can't respond to the slightest "excuse me please" to the more extreme "get the fuck out of my way". They were all just like DURRHURR. Oh, and there were bad smells so that was something to be expected. I've never been to a smash tournament before, and I don't plan on going to any due to the douchebaggery and asshattery and whathaveyou. I'm also glad that my store wasn't the only one that fucked up. Seriously, running events is NOT THAT HARD. I was a head judge for a Yu-Gi-Oh regional, and, GETTING PEOPLE TO DO WHAT YOU SAY IS NOT THAT HARD. THIRTY PEOPLE SHOULD NOT. BE. A. PROBLEM. It's not that hard to ask people to clear out of the way, but these people... I swear, almost all of them are morons.

Another highlight is that my friends wished me good luck, so that's good. I just don't know how I'm going to face them on Monday when I ran out and didn't see their matches T_T

No kudos to Nintendo for allowing this to happen. It doesn't take ANY effort to plug in a Gamecube controller. Not everyone who is attending this tournament has played their precious new console.

EDIT: I thought the background tags would work for blacking out the text like it did for other people =_= Aaaaaaand the spoiler tags aren't working. Great.

Ahahaha. Good lord. You're, like, the definition of an angry Internet male. This is almost exactly why tourney players get profiled as being anal retentive, obnoxious nerds with a hideous superiority complex.

lol, I was furious when I got home. I actually had to take another shower, bah. No, I don't see how that makes me "an angry Internet male". I just chose to vent here because I thought it would be funny. Although I strongly feel that tournaments should NOT be sanctioned at all unless employees know what the fuck they are doing.

I'm sorry, but, "when we got there, we got notice that we would only be able to use Wiimotes, and only the starting roster. With items on. I should have left then ..." is basically unredeemable.

THERE CAN BE NO RANDOM ELEMENTS

Oh, hrm. I didn't care about the starting roster, one minute etc. Sorry to have that misconstrued. I just didn't want to/couldn't use the Wiimote, plain and simple. Especially when the Gamestop employee stated that we could bring our own controllers earlier that day.

I don't deal with Gamestop that often and I've never been in a tourament before, but here was the basic rundown.
I was told to arrive at 9. Things would get started at 9:30 and the official tournament would begin at 10, and we'd all be able to leave with our games at midnight.

I arrived at 9. Two minutes later, I was told the store was closing and that I had to wait outside, in the freezing cold, till 9:30 at which time they would check the roster. Anyone who wasn't there when their names were called were cut out, no questions. Said said that the tourament would begin at 10.

9:30 comes. They take initals, tel everyone to line up against the glass (though, lining up seemed to have no real purpose). At 9:55, they started to setup the tourament. We watched from outside as they reset the Wii four times because they had no idea what they were doing. Around 10:30, they finally started the tourament, but would only allow the two contending fighters in the store at once- leaving everyone else outside in the cold.. All spectators had to watch from outside when the Wii setup in the store was way in the back, barely allowing anyone to see.

This went on until Midnight at which point they counted down to the very last second before selling Brawl and they'd only allow one person in the store at a time.

I'm not sure what gamestop's policy is on the matter, but I really felt that we should have been let inside- or given numbers. We were told to line up numerous times, but were never taken in order of being lined up. While cheering outside the store for contestants inside, we were told to shut up and stand in a line. If it were not for the cool people there I met, I would have left.

I can understand if the store has some important rules regarding such things, but the employees didn't have to be the jerks they were about it. They did all but directly point and laught at us as we waited outside. Myself, and several parents that were there have intentions on reporting the matter.

Overall, the customers were awesome, the employees were pricks.
