Games that should have just been a video instead.

So we have games that sometimes, talk too much, and have very little to offer in terms of gameplay, still is classified as a game, while there is a category that exist in gaming industry called "Graphic novels" Is basically the form of a book with player interaction. Most of it is just still images with text to read (Sometime voiced characters) Is it a game or not? Lol

Stuff like this exist is Metal gear soild digital graphic novel for psp, which is a store brought "GAME" you play on playstation portable. Basically is a retelling of the metal gear solid game on playstation/ game cube in the form of a comic book or as the japanese call manga. It features comic book like drawings including quore bubbles and still images with very little animation. Fun fact the cutscenes in Metal Gear solid peace walker also on psp and ps3 Via HD collection, was the same person who did the graphic novel comic. The only difference between this graphic novel and the actual playstation/game cube game is you are watching and reading a book rather than people actually speaking or you interacing which is the game part. Either way is still classified as a game, not a video or movie. Most of the metal gear series is watching a story in cutscenes with events unfolding to understand what goes on, so i mean this only started when the psx game came out, the first two games for msx (A microsoft computer console that actually had games on it by konami at the time, most nes games were ported from there... or least based off them) Were more about action, and had less to read. Personally while this game is centered on understanding a plot, and most of the game play has you being stealthly, i think it should just been a video, tv series, movies or what not.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attourny series is another game classified as graphic novel. While is a game, player interaction is limited. Phoenix Wright is a defence attourney or lawyer who you are assisting (I use assist as it mostly seem that way than actually controlling him) on his investigations and cases by helping him interrogate suspects, witness, find clues and evidence then at court, pressing the witness until you can exploit their testimony flaws to expose them and defend your client from being deem guilty. While most of the interaction is you playing detecitve, and attourney, most of this seem like something you could watch instead of play.

Please understand, i'm not saying i dislike playing these games or graphic novels, i'm not saying they shouldn't be what they are, i am saying perhaps it maybe better as a video than a game, when buying a game you expecting to play it, be active. Just some games have very limited activities to do that you might as well just be watching it instead of playing it.

So in your own opinion, what is some games you feel it should just been a video? Also i'm not asking anyone to debate anything or what i said, is just opinions. We agree the games exisxt the way it does, and we like it, but it could just be as good if you were watching it as a video. I mostly think the games that have stories that seem to be more focused on it having you read or listen to what is going on, than rather be a game you play and do more of. So for this the games have to have more story in it than actual game play, like the two i mentioned above, or many RPG games.

Games provide a certain thrill to my spine that movies and series can't.

Playing Ace Attorney is different from watching Ace Attorney (Anime or movie)

Playing a game requires input from you, whether it be big or small while videos, just don't do that at all.

I love playing visual novels provided that they're good but to simply turn them into a show that needs no input from me removes the thrill. I loved the Ace Attorney games because at any moment, I can fuck up and start all over again. I loved the chills it sent mdown my spine the anime on the other hand, just doesn't give the same feeling. Everything was already planned from the beginning. There is no "good" or "bad" ending to choose from unlike in the games.

I don't want games to "be just a video", as it's always nice to play it and be part of the story. But some games are either already only video, or presented as a video.

the remake of Kingdom hearts HD have episodes in video only. You earn trophies by watching them, and it resumes what happened in the game you should have played on another console.
KH1.5 remix : KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (DS)
KH 2.5 remix : ReCoded (DS)
KH 2.8 : Kingdom hearts X back cover (android/New point of view from other protagonist)

There are also games which are not "just watching", and you actually play them, but are presented in a way they could have been movies.
    - Parasite Eve (PS1)
    - Until Dawn (it even already have real actors in it!)
    - resident evil ? (PS1)
    - the telltall games? taking decision to watch the movie you chose.
    - Oxenfree ? (same as telltall). In fact, a real movie is actually in preparation.
I guess a lot of games are presented as a movie that you play.
Telling a story can be presented like a movie, nothing is wrong with it. there's not a lot of way to tell a story. Book, comics, movie, games, etc. all are using the same layout. but games have more or less user input to advance in the story or change it if being interactive.

IMO, Heavy Rain would have been a good movie, actually to me it didnt have much of a game atmosphere apart from pressing x button in y moment.

Actually, the Telltale games require you to do more then taking decisions.
Small actions and searching around is something you do a lot in those games.

I LOVED Heavy Rain! The decisions weren't too hard, it's not like I'd be putting myself in harms way by choosing to go through the game's deathtraps, but it was so much fun to see how the story played out!

I actually think Heavy Rain was in the right format. Beyond having some heavy decisions to make (which works in a choose-your-own-adventure format), it also worked to apply stress to the player to affect execution and decision making that had a big impact on the story. I know in my case when playing as the lawman, I successfully talked the crazy guy in the apartment down, and just when I thought I'd calmed the situation, he made a sudden move and I shot him. Now my partner, with whom I was disgusted, had this wrongful death to dangle over me so I kinda had to go along with his corrupt ways. And it all happened because of the stress of the moment; something that just doesn't work so well in another format with branching story.

Sticking with the PS3, though, The Last Of Us would definitely be on my list. The game play, in my opinion, did not add to that game and created a dissonance in how the story plays out and your interaction with the world. It has you killing mountains of people and zombies because that's the only way they knew how to make the game play. And the puzzle solving was repeatedly solving the same puzzle (move ladder here, move floating pallet with Ellie on it there). Also due to the nature of the gameplay being a cover-based shooter, you could see you were going to get into a fight soon when you'd walk into a room with a bunch of waist-high objects to duck behind that you'd probably be making use of as you trek back out.

I thought a uncharted movie was planned, was it cancelled?

Also i mean I think this is long over due, but i want uncharted tomb raider cross over. :P
Two of the worlds best explorers are on a quest to find the great treasure or discover the seven wonders.

Or maybe Assassians creed cross over where you lived in a time period of nathan ancestor and you team up with him to find treasure in some ancient period in time.

There probably a winning idea somewhere.

Yeah, dedicated video game consoles are dying rather quickly (sometimes more literally than others.)

They say that people who join the project keep dropping out of it. That Sony should just give up at this point. Which is a shame.

    Happy furry land with Lucar
Dragon's lair- game is really hard and along with FMVs that it should of just been a movie instead of a game.
Command and conquer- Yeah I know this one is not a great example but just look at how EA ruined it after C&C RA3
Off road interceptor- I love the gameplay in this one but the story doesn't mix along with the engaging gameplay on a level of being a video game, should of been a movie

Bioshock- would still like to watch it more than to play it :P

Ironically, there are so many old games that i love to see as a movie/cartoon, like 40 Winks, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Medievil :) Because when i was child, my brother played those games and i watch them!
