Although the Gameboy is not the most difficult system to emulate, GB/GBC 3DS emulators using an o3ds leave a lot to be desired.

-Virtual Console: I think it's a decent option, but I think it's missing some features that I'd expect from using an emulator, also having to install each game individually is a bit annoying.
-Lastest version of Retroarch: I remember the last time I tried Retroarch the performance was not good, I had to use the Dual TGB core for the games to run decently. and yet the games still don't run well
-Gameyob 3DS: It runs worse and has fewer features than the NDS version. There's little reason to use it over the others.
-Gameyob NDS: I really like this emulator and it's probably one of the best options, but it's still a emulator for NDS. the resolution is lower and a little blurry. also some game has issues
-Mgba: Possibly the best emulator for 3DS, but it doesn't run well on O3DS. I've seen people mention that GB games run well, but that's not true.
-Old version of Retroarch (Pre-1.6.0) : I recently discovered that Retroarch 3DS was pretty good on O3DS at some point, but they updated it and now everything runs worse. I think it's been like this since version 1.6.0. The vast majority of older versions of Retroarch 3ds are lost, but I managed to find at least 2. I'm using retroarch 1.3.6 with Gambatte 0.5.0 and I think this is the best GB emulator for O3ds

There also the emulators PlutoBoy , Cinoop , GnuBoy 3DS but I don't think they offer too much compared to other emulators

EDIT: Here the link for retroarch 1.3.6 https://gbatemp.net/download/retroarch-3ds-2016-11-20.34443/

If you want to be thorough, you might also include using Goomba Color in GBA mode, but that would have similar limitations to the Virtual Console.

From the compatibility list, it mentions that Goomba Color doesn't save on VC

gameyob (not the nds nor the 3ds version, but the dsiware version, look for a .cia) is the best choice for the vast majority of games.

For some games, mgba is required. But be warned that it eats more battery, and that many gbc games don't run fullspeed.

If you consider gba games, openagbfirm is a no brainer.

I've used both the NDS and Twilight Menu (DSI) for years, and to be honest, I've never seen much of a difference. Almost all games run at full speed on the NDS version anyway. I guess it's easier to install and already include with Twilight Menu already.

I don't know why you even mention mgba. Didn't you read my post?
I just downloaded the latest version of mgba, and it still runs most Game Boy games pretty poorly. and I tested it with fairly basic GB games.

What are the pros of retroarch over gameyob? I've literally used the latter for years and had 0 issues and was okay with its features. I've never liked how retroarch works, I can't find anything ever.

If I'm not mistaken, only 3DS mGBA and Gameyob have gyro support for Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, so that's something?

Higher resolution and better emulation in general, there is also the rewind and playlists features but I have not tried it.
This is literally Retroarch for 3DS. If you don't like using Retroarch, I don't think you'll like this very much.
But I haven't had any problems using it, maybe you need to have a PC to put the files on the SD card.

I forgot to mention it, but I later found out that version Retroarch 1.9.0 runs GB games well, too.

Edit: I been trying to use the other cores, and the app in general But I've had several crashes or the SD card disconnects, and I'm not sure if I would really recommend it.
