Hi, my wii u is on 5.5.2 - i have installed a few games to my usb hard drive via browserhax / wii u helper / wup installer. Im currently not running any cfw.

My question is, when i run a game it is prompting me to update. (i have blocked the wii u from updating via dns). I understand i can download game updates via wii u helper, but how do you install it? Do you drop them into the install folder then install in wup loader just like a normal game file.

Also, i havent installed any cfw as i only want to save a few games to the hard drive then no longer need access to the homebrew channel. So when i have installed all the games and updates i require, can i reset the connection settings and use the wii u as normal, can i play online without getting blocked?

Thanks

Hi @TotalInsanity4 I have installed a game and an update and it worked. So once I have installed all the games and updates that I require, I will no longer need homebrew - so baring in mind I have no cfw installed is it ok to reset the internet settings so I'm no linger using dns. Also if the wii decides to update will I still be able to play the games on and offline? Thanks

if the game is a non-retail game, it won't work without cfw. I'm not sure if updates count, but they do have tickets as well.

I have only installed retail games, no dlc or vc games. I was just wanting to know I they will continue to work on and offline once I no longer need homebrew and reset my internet settings. Thanks

I'm thinking yes, but I don't know for sure. updates have a separate ticket from the game. you could always try it. ;)

Ok was just wanting to know for sure as I didn't want the console to get blocked from online or update and not let me play the games

What ultimately matters is whether the title(s) have a valid license compatible with your console (meaning either "only for yours" or "for everyone")...

On the WiiU as a rule of thumb bluray games, game update titles, and free DLC are of the latter kind

Ok thanks for clarifying. Can the usb hard drive with the games installed be used on any other wii u console or just the 1 you downloaded the games from. Also can you copy the hard drive? Thanks

you can check for sure with tik2sd and a hex editor.

cloning the drive - possibly. you can't use the drive on another wii due to encryption.
