I just found out that you can jailbreak playstation 4s, looks like I've been living under a rock the past few years.
Turns out my ps4 is on firmware version 5.55, so the guide advises to go with the next jailbreakable firmware, which would be 6.72 accordingly.
But I was wondering a few people claim there is a jb for straight 5.55, is this true?
What should I do? Upgrade to 6.72 anyway and follow the guide from there?

It also says that 6.72 is 'Semi Stable Webkit/Kernel', what exactly does the semi stable imply?
Thank you.

I agree, but there is a jailbreak for that firmware iirc. there's one for every firmware between 5.05 and 7.55. 8.xx doesn't have anything, so then you go with 9.00. I can't guarantee you won't have problems with some of the more unstable exploits. it's really 5.05 (stay on it) or 9.00. if you're between those firmwares, install 9.00.

@highrisefuzz semi stable means it crashes a few times. Whereas 5.05 was 90% stable, 6.72 is like 80%… it’s fine tbh.

9.00 is probably your simplest option but you’ll need a small usb stick for the exploit.

If you stick to 6.72 it’s decent, and no usb required.

You should go with the firmware that is the most stable. It is a big hassle when your ps4 crashes when you have an extended drive connected. You should go with 9.00.

Definitely try 6.72 For example on my old FAT is more stable than 5.05 If you will not be satisfied, you can go easily to 9,00 Better take a slow pace than a sorry

Okay so I will try out 6.72 first as suggested
Thank you all for the responses, I really appreciate it!

Give this a try it's not officially released by @Leeful as he doesn't make esp8266 bins but it is his ps-phive 6.72 menu 🙂

I can vouch for this method, just order a ESP8266 from Aliexpress for $5.00 and flash this bin. It works flawlessly for me on a PS4 Pro running 6.72. This is the device I am using.
