Funimation will be bringing their streaming app, Funimation Now, to the Nintendo Switch, which will allow subscribers to watch anime that's licensed by Funimation on their Switch consoles, in either sub or dub format. This was announced during the 2018 Chicago Comic Expo, where Funimation revealed during their panel that they are currently developing the app for the Switch.

It isnt offical. Funimation posted on facebook, they would love to make an offical announcment. However they need permission from Nintendo to release the app. They are encouraging people to notify Nintendo and let them know we want funimation on the Nintendo switch.

It is not going to happen then. If Netflix and YouTube can't get on Switch then FUNimation has no chance.

I prefer subs (not only for anime, any movies, even in cinema I go with subtitles!), and what I understand is funimation is specialized in dub, but the first post mention both sub and dub.
I wondered if they already have both available, or it will be new for the switch?

both funimation and funimationnow websites mention "not available in your country, only US and canada", so I don't think it will be available on switch to everyone in Europe.

i can answer this. Subs and dubs are available already on funimation now. going forward funimation planned on doing just dubs and leaving subs to crunchyroll. this was done to try and get anime out of japan quicker. the plan to share the work load this way may or may not be happening due to sony's purchase of funimation.

I'd get my hopes up but i remembered that Funimation service is U.S locked and free VPN's are slow as hell and normally locks streaming to SD quality. I just stick to Crunchyroll on PC and wait for a decent browser that's better than having lots of apps installed.

While this might be fine for the Switch in this particular situation, I really do not like the idea of all of these different streaming services fragmenting my watching experience and demanding I pay for their particular service.

In the future, some companies will appear claiming that you can pay them just once to have access to various streaming services.....

And they'll call it 'cable tv'.
