Ookkay, so as some of you might know, I spend some time helping out with about 25 kids aged between 7 to 11. This coming week, I've been given a half hour slot to keep them entertained and happy. So I need to come up with some games.... but my mind is really hazing! Its especially hard because I don't really know any of their names yet!! (Though I'm sure if its an "your out" type of game, the first kid out, can help with the names etc)

So, can you recommend any games and how they are playeD??

I seem to remember duck duck goose. but i cant remember the exact rules... like who becomes it if the person gets caught or sits down.

Is it indoors (no big props)?
If you have a large room without breakables you could play:

Volca Ball - it's kind like dodgeball.

2 soft balls
Split into 2 teams
divide an area up into 2 halves - line in middle.
Each team has a 'backstop' behind the opposing team.
Any time someone is hit out they go to the other end of court behind opposing team and can attack from that end too.
The first person 'out' on each team tags the initial backstopper so they join the court.

Anyone in the court can catch the ball but if they drop it they're out, of course if they get hit, then they're out.

If you have a large outdoor area you can play Capture the Flag.

Volca Ball does sound like fun, but the younger ones get REALLY whiny =/ so don't think they'd like being attacked unfortunatly =(

British Bulldog? Just using touch obviously.

Statues? One kid is picked to be the catcher so to speak, then every kid has to pose like a statue. You can move when the catcher isn't looking but if he catches you moving then you become the catcher kind of thing.

going to play port and starboard as well =D

This game is a little bit like Hedge and Gate. Very simply, Brown Owl issues a series of instructions and the last Brownie to do them is out.

* Port -- Brownies run to the Left-hand side of the room
* Starboard -- Brownies run to the Right-hand side of the room
* Captain's coming -- Brownies stand still and salute
* Climb the rigging -- Pretend to climb
* Scrub the Decks -- Pretend to scrub the decks
* Man the lifeboat -- Brownies stand in a line. The furthest one away from Brown Owl when she shouts "stop" is out
* Shark -- Lie on the floor with legs in the air
* Admiral -- Stand still and pretend to play the flute
* Admiral's Daughter -- Brownies put their hands on the hips, wiggle them and go "ooooh!"
* Three men in a boat -- Brownies have to get into groups of three (NB this can be two men, four men etc).
