Fox, dude, seriously. I never said you were wrong i said justin was. The point here now is that he said just said homebrew. He did not say CFW SPECIFIC HOMEBREW. Just homebrew, period.
He didn't say "just homebrew" he said "homebrew which utilizes certain syscalls" which is still correct. Because it doesn't support homebrew that utilizes CFW syscalls.
He didn't specify what "certain" meant, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. He was just unspecific, but 100% correct.

No dude. I don't know how you guys get it in your head that him saying certain in there implies certain syscalls. He is implying that ALL homebrew requires CFW syscalls.

CFW homebrew is homebrew still, but I get what you mean. ;) I'm just saying that he had a point - some homebrew doesn't work, that being CFW-related homebrew... in which the user wouldn't be interested in anyways if he/she wasn't a CFW user. :P

He means homebrew which utilizes certain syscalls, not all homebrew. I know it's a matter of syntax, but the message is pretty clear. At no point he implies that all homebrew required said syscalls, he's merely narrowing down the "homebrew" he means since it's a broad term.
I was expecting another OMG CRASH WE CAN HAX THE 4DS WIT DIS SHIT thrread.
Seriously, no. You cannot hack the 3DS with a crash.
Of course you can - that's how the Gateway and other 3DS flashkits/homebrew booting methods work, they utilize a DS Profile crash.

this went from a possible 3DS exploit to a flamewar on Cobra ODE got to love GBATEMP :))
I don't see any flaming, rather a discussion which is sort of what forums are for, but okay. :yay:

Besides, I'm not seeing any exploit material here, just a crappy crashing app. 99 out of 100 app crashes are completely useless. "Possible exploit" is stretching it a bit. ;)

I dont know if I would call it a flame war. Normally flame wars involve insulting other people. I was just trying to point out people need to stop comparing the 3ds to the ps3 seeing as how with cobra you dont even need to downgrade. It may be a circuit board you need to attach to the system but its still technically a hack seeing as how it works on 4.50 OFW and makes the ps3 do something it normally wouldnt

"homebrew which uses certain syscalls" - a subset of homebrew, namely the applications which use certain syscalls.
"homebrew, which uses certain syscalls" - homebrew in general, considering homebrew generally uses those syscalls.
The latter is wrong. The former has been said.

But yes, not every crash has exploit potential. That is the very point of system security, preventing a piece of bad code from disrupting the operation of the entire system or letting a user-mode application compromise the system. I hate it when it is used to limit the access consumers have to devices they bought, but it is there, and it makes exploits difficult. Certainly more difficult than getting an application to crash.

So glad I decided to sell my 3DS. I too gave up the hope of seeing that happening, waiting around just wasn't worth it IMHO. I though the PS3 firmware could be downgraded, albeit with a USB dongle, at least I thought that was the only way to go back to 3.55.

It was idiotic move to buy a fresh new console to expect piracy in it so quickly, especially considering Nintendo expected it too, this time, unlike the DS and the Gameboy firms

Jesus christ, CFallenleaf, you cannot read or what? What I said is totally correct. Is English a second language for you? The word "certain" in "certain syscalls" has a well defined meaning and what I said was right. The faq *you* quoted even says *I* am right, quite plainly...

Thanks for the defense to various posters above :-) never been attacked in such a silly way before... And I wasn't even around in the aftermath of my innocuous post. I come back to this thread and CFallenleaf has gone bananas. Weird.
