what happen to the wii now to say that is bricked? explain
It's pretty much just sitting somewhere doing nothing. So I'll ask my friend of what he thinks of this method and see if we can open it up and fry it.
Just a question (i think i asked earlier but didn't see an answer). What will happen if they replace the nand chip? Could they see that the wii was modded? or is it that when I fry it, it fries too much of the wii to be repaired?

but when you turn it on don't do nothing?

I'm actually not sure, he didn't really tell me, I'll figure it out next time I visit him.

why is that its always the "FRIEND'S" wii that bricks? try searching gbatemp and you will see what i mean.
I don't have a wii, I used to but I traded it for a 360 through craigslist, one of the best choices of my life.

Well, to be fair, it's not my friend that broke his wii, it was his little brother. My friend knew about the update and why he shouldn't update the wii, his little brother didn't and ended up bricking it. It's ok tho, they got another wii and are pretty content with that one. My friend wanted me to fix it so that he can possibly make some extra cash from it. I'll see if maybe I can buy it from him, i've been looking to get another wii for a while now.

Ok, this is a guarenteed way to get nintendo to fix this and not find homebrew or anything on you wii.

Things needed:
Tri-wing screwdriver
9 volt battery
a couple of wires
Wii

Open the wii using any of the disasembly guides on the net. Locate the NAND. Take the 2 wires and attatch then to the 2 terminals on the battery. Now take the other end of the wires and start rubbing along the legs of the NAND chip. When you hear a "pop" or start smelling smoke then you start reassembling the wii. Tell nintendo that you did the 4.2 update and your wii started smoking and hasn't worked since.

That is the stupidest fucking thing i have EVER read on GBATemp and I hope to god the OP doesn't listen to you.

There are stickers, triwing screws and checks to see if someone opened a wii during repair, opening it voids the warranty and fucks you out of getting any help because they'll assume it being opened as the cause and charge you for a new wii.

DO NOT OPEN IT IF IT IS BRICKED. Nintendo can't list titles on a bricked wii, let alone fix it. They'll say they "fixed" it but you get another refurb wii with a new serial number and your shop account linked to the new one, that's why your shit never comes back with vc games installed or any of your previous info, nothing is transferred but your license.

Nintendo currently can do less for their customers than team twiizers, none of their "repair" shy of a disc drive replacement is actually conducted, the boards get scrapped and the parts go to fix other broken wiis at sponsored nintendo repair centers.

I can't believe you're telling people to do this shit, but then again, it's not your warranty, right?

Yes and it's called voiding a warranty for nothing.

Please don't tell people to drop an atom bomb to cover up an anthill. We like to help people here, not leave them with a system 3x as fucked as it was before.

He's just paranoid about one custom channel and you're feeding into it telling him to fry the whole board. Surely nintendo techs can tell a system has been opened. NAND chips also have a very low chance of frying on their own, and they could easily accuse him of something like fucking up a modchip install and hit him with the full fee. Don't give nintendo any more reason to not service his system.

Hilarious? Just leave, seriously, you aren't helping anyone and your trolling breaks forum rules.

If it's too much effort to ask and help, just leave. You aren't doing anyone any service telling them to wreck their shit.

For all these wii systems you've supposedly opened, you should know how fucking difficult it can in fact be for a novice (such as op's friend since he's being sent here to help) To put everything back to the point where a tech won't notice replaced half-sticky rubber feet or stripped tri-wing screws. Not to mention once it's seen to have been opened, there's a big black burn mark on a wii that technically should never be there.

Now tell me they aren't going to consider it a case of a failed modchip install?

You keep spouting bullshit and fail to put up an argument regarding electronic burns on the board, maybe it could be because you're still fucking trolling instead of relying on factual information.

Seriously, you can't even spell "warranty" properly, you're the last person that should be giving advice on repairs to anyone.

People like you are the fucking cancer this site is being infected with. Cancel your account before you ruin more uninformed peoples' shit.

To the original poster, send it to nintendo and tell them exactly what happened, that the update failed, they will replace it fully free of charge, your friend will have a new wii and there's nothing that can be gathered from a bricked wii in your case.

If there's nothing we can tell you to do to fix it, there's nothing they will SPEND TIME AND MONEY stealth searching for, so there's no reason to do what some stupid asshole told you and burn the electronics of it, because if you can't assemble it back just right you'll get blamed and have to pay full repair prices. Good Luck OP.

Ok guys, stop fighting, this is going nowhere. I'm obviously gonna do my research on how to disassemble and reassemble a wii before I decide to do anything. Also, I won't be doing anything soon, I'm gonna ask my friend questions when I meet him again in a few days. Nothing needs to be rushed and all ideas on how to solve the problem are welcome. PLEASE stop fighting.

All i know is I don;t suggest people wreck their shit more for no reason, you're the one being a douche.

What if his friend's warranty was voided for listening to you? THINK.

People come here for help, not to be fucked with. Grow up or get the fuck out.

People like you are the problem, not the solution.

How funny would you think it was if someone told you to do something that you were paranoid about?

for "all those people" that followed your idea, you've been here for what? six months? hahaha and you call others noobs? give me a fucking break kid. Nintendo only even started making an issue of the homebrew channel since after you signed up here.

Reported for trolling.

This ^^

Once your Wii is bricked whilst updating Boot2 there's bugger all Nintendo can see. There's no need to fry your Wii, just send it back to Nintendo after going apeshit on the phone and you should be laughing.

or you could send it to bushing

I thought when I ignored, deleted and didn't bother to read your 3 paragraph PM you'd get it.

Just stop, you're wrong and suggesting so much more than is required.Seriously, just stop.

If anyone's trolling it's you trying to bait an argument and bragging about taking it to PM.

There's now two other people in this thread supporting the fact that your idea is poorly thought out and overkill. Just stop already, your "help" isn't helping anyone.

Edit: I lol'd extra hard at "No longer will you troll and talk trash about me in public." Haha, try and stop me, your advice sucks and is overkill.

Edit 2: lol you think the Internet is "public". Enjoy being butt-hurt and giving three paragraph answers to other people who disagree with you too. You don't have anything to prove or anything, lol.

I'm done here though, I'm gonna go out in the "real" public. It's been fun. Good luck with....whatever it is you do, I guess frying wii boards.

Hmmmmmm. Phone up Nintendo and get it fixed for free or give it to Team Twiizers for forensic science. I know which I'd prefer doing lol.

As for frying the Nand I dont know if that is your best route to take but as for the stickers needed to be taken off to take apart a wii. Use a box cutter or razpr blade to lift and edge and your set. The security in the Wii is the tri wing. There arent any warranty stickers and the white stickers are easy for even a beginner to do. As for stripping a screw, highly unlikely they are not in that tight.
