hey i thought of a fun little idea. once i get the note flow down, for the first note flow demo I need to make a sample song. lets vote on what song should be in the first note flow demo. I made a poll page on my site so go vote http://www.freewebs.com/fretfury/polls.htm

i have a question yes i kno its like 2am but its my birthay and i can never sleep so

are those songs there for a reason or are those the only ones you have?

EDIT1: hey are we using a point meter

I'm actually really excited about this bounty thing. once I get a good running version with at least a song in it I will enter it for this month. and this is the most active topic in the whole homebrew forum so it has good chances.

Just wanted to say i'm looking forward to this project. I really wanted custom songs in GH:OT and if this is the next best thing im really looking forward to it.

hey so ive looked at all the songs and i know this is a vote but inside the fire looks the easiest abd fun

but we will let the vote decide

Hey Wazmo when you sent me the source you sent me an old copy can you send a newer version, please

Charts I found some charts I, but didn't if you could use them or not.

I been at this for the last few hours, and I finally have something to show for it. An updated version of the guitar with a background!

So, here it is.

I also included separate sprites of the strings, so wazmo does not have to make the entire background change when you strum. The strings are set in a window that, if placed over the guitar, will set the strings right on the neck where they are supposed to be. Enjoy!

Oh and wazmo, here is my idea for the note flow.

I'm not too big on coding, so I don't know if this possible, but here goes. All of the charts could be .txt files that could be placed in a certain folder on the card (to make it easy to import charts/songs, like in FoF). When a song is loaded a string of code (again, not sure how all of that works

) could read the text line by line, looking for certain characters. Here is an example.

g y

r b

Ok, now let me explain. Gs, rs, ys, and bs could stand for the notes. When the code finds one, it throws a note down the chart. Pretty simple. Lowercase Ls could be use to make long notes easy, and spaces could signify empty spaces on the fretboard. You could use capital letter to signify hammer ons and pull offs as well. Something as simple as this is good for many reasons.

-Writing .txt files is simple and anyone can do it given enough time.
-We won't have to make a program to get charts to work or have to rely on the FoF chart maker
-.txt file are very small. Paired with .ogg file for music, users would be able to fit hundreds of songs on a single card (I think).

Anyway, tell me what you think (about both the guitar and my idea for the note flow. Thanks.

EDIT: Oh and I will be sending this pic to you, wazmo via email, so that you get it in high quality for the game.

so what is the time length of one space? i can imagine one space has a very short time length and the txt file being crazily tall

) so you can put notes very close together like that "breed" song.

also, do we HAVE TO write the charts ourselves lines by lines
because...(well, i have never convert a song myself before on FoF) but apparently all you have to do to make charts is find a midi file and load it into the FoF converter, then picked out the unwanted bits and pieces to make the song playable as to detemine the differences between difficulties, it sounds easier to me that way. (I think)

Wow I didn't think about that. Maybe it could look like this.

Something like that I guess. The Es could signify longer amounts of space skipped. I suppose you could use different characters for different amounts of space skipped. Oh wait. IDEA! You could use numbers to signify how many beats (or line's worth of notes, I don't know the correct term) are empty. So, you could just put something like this.

g
4
ry

The 4 means that four beats are empty in the chart. That could save on text file space.

EDIT: just fixing some grammar errors.

this is an excellent idea Penguindefender!!! i will be trying this out to see how it works. Love the new guitar by the way i can now make the strings move. hopefully my next demo will have a note flow

Your welcome! Glad to help.

FretFury will win the bounty for sure!

I just got another idea. You could place certain numbers at the beginning of the txt file. Theses numbers could stand for certain variables, such as how fast the fret board moves for a certain song. Something like that would make fast songs easy to chart without having to put lots of spacing numbers in the chart. Helping on a project like this really gets me excited for college which I start in October (I'm going into game design).

hey nice idea about the notes but im not good at coding so i dont know how we would get the game to read the .txt files but if it does nice idea.

also nice idea on the speed and variables
