It's pretty hard to trade when there are lots of people in the union room...
You have to actually look for the correct person, and if you didn't talk to the correct person, you have to wait a moment until you can press B.

No, seriously, it was a complete freeze - you know when people fall from the ceiling upon refreshing of who's in the room? Well, I got a freezing when someone was still pretty high up, and looked enormous @_@
