You'll be able to claim a bunch of free items for your Steam profile as a part of Quakecon 2025 if you watch this stream.
Since it's currently offline, you'll probably need to wait some time for it to start again. Based on similar previous events, you'll probably need to watch for 10-15 minutes before you receive free items.

If someone notices that the stream is up, let us know by commenting in this thread!

These are the items

  • Non-Marketable
    • 2 Avatar Frame
    • 6 Animated Avatar
    • 1 Animated Sticker
    • 1 Mini-Profile Background
  • Marketable
    • 1 Profile Background
  • Unknown
    • 1 Unknown Asset #35463227378

The event is currently live so go grab those freebies while you can! You need to watch the stream for 10-15 minutes.
In case some of you miss the stream, there will be a third one as well so don't worry if you didn't get the items. It should be on 10th of August, 1:00 UTC.

Sharknado VR is free on Meta.

EDIT #2 (NEW!):
Another itch.io game: https://inpr.itch.io/operation

EDIT #3 (NEW!):
Zynga Poker ™ – Texas Holdem is available for free on Steam in 40 countries.

There are two licenses you can add for this game:
  • No Cost License - +1 game count.
  • Free on Demand - no +1 game count.

From what I can tell, there are issues with adding this game with the No Cost License, can't really test it myself unfortunately.
  • Can be added to ASF clients with !addlicense asf s/1351467
  • Can be added in browsers/mobile with javascript:AddFreeLicense(1351467)

BlockBlasters is free on Steam.

:yay: :yay:

Umm what...?! Yesterday I read my beloved RETURN magazine (dunno whether it's known outside of Germany but it's about retro games) and while I looked at those BlockBlasters screenshots, I remembered the big review of the Amiga homebrew game "Dr. Dangerous" that I read yesterday in it.

Someone already asked on their itch.io page whether BlockBlasters ripped them off. Looking forward to an answer.

Thanks for the info. :). If you look at the description you will see that the graphic is by an artist called Ansimuz (Pixel Art) and this is freely available. The version of me was adapted to 32 colours, so that the graphic is usable for the Amiga. It's all in the credits.

Ok, it looks like both games use the same Grotto Escape game asset pack:
https://ansimuz.itch.io/super-grotto-escape-pack

With the advent of art asset packs, this is going to become more common. Vampire Survivors started with bought art assets.

It makes sense for smaller indie games, especially if they're free. Making your own art is a lot of work, any many programmers don't have that skill, so their previously had to either team up with an artist for the game, or hire one to develop art for their game specifically.

It's a newer development for the visual art in a game, but there's a longer history for music and sound effects. Most of Doom's sounds were taken from the Sound Ideas Series 6000 stock audio library.
