Want me to post about just free games or about giveaway contests too?

Pcgamingwiki doesn't mention anything about drm, so I'm inclined to say it does work (not sure if well however)

with a game that old it wouldn't be a DRM issue, mostly (if we ignore securom/safedisc/starforce)
it'd be a core OS compatibility issue, windows 11 being a large culprit of older games struggling to run

From what I can find, the Steam release is a 2009 Windows port of the original DOS game.

The Steam page lists compatibility with Windows 8, so Windows 10/11 compatibility is more likely.

Also, there's nothing in the Steam discussions page for the game about compatibility issues with Windows, although there is one for macOS Sierra.

i initially had a drafted reply stating that it was using dosbox until i downloaded the game myself to double check and found a ton of non-dosbox files

either way the game's always free so i don't think it actually counts for this thread in the first place, since afaik it's for temporarily free games only.. though i gotta say that it's lost it's identity over the years

Yeah, ironically, the Windows port actually makes compatibility more of an issue the further from release, since a lot of DOS games have great compatibility with DOSBox. If they had released the DOS version in a DOSBox wrapper, updating it to work on newer versions of Windows would be trivial.

I think this thread is still mostly games that are temporarily free, although a few other freebies have snuck in. I think the early access games going from free to paid count since they're now temporarily free until the paid price kicks in. Also, notices of paid game that just went "permanently" free I think count here, especially since a "permanently" free game may disappear and no longer be distributed. I'm thinking of how Blizzard put Lost Vikings and a few of their older games up for free a long time ago on their site, and those links are now gone.

New, permanently free games are a much grayer area; they're not a perfect fit for this thread, but I don't know of a thread that's a better fit. If they're too much of a distraction, I guess a completely separate thread could be started.

Just thought that I should've posted the previous fan games I played the last few weeks in this topic:

Well, I can't speak for others, but when I was posting new free games on Steam, I focused on ones that were actually free, not "Free to Play" with microtransactions, and I avoided posting demos unless they were actually unique gameplay from the main game, or I couldn't really tell it was a demo.

A number of them were student final projects for game developer programs, which are typically short but interesting, with varying levels of polish.

However, without the "Free 2 Play Weekly" videos recapping all that week's releases, I haven't posted those new free games for the most part, because I don't have the time/patience to go through them all myself to find the "cream of the crop" so to speak.

Few more itch.io games:
