I am tired of new ones coming out and hearing people complain about it not being enough like CoD games. It makes me sick. My friends piss me off the most. When I play with them on CoD all I hear is them complaining. One of my friends whenever he tries a different FPS he will always overexaggerate and complain and use the excuse of he likes to play CoD to relax and have fun but anytime he ever is playing a game he is complaining(yeah any game). Honestly I love DICE games. DICE supports their games with patches, they fix problems, and their games are extremely fun. I don't see how people can like a company that doesn't fix their product over one that does. My favorite FPS even though some may consider it weird was BF2142. It probably would have been something else but I didn't have a good PC until around that time and around then is when I had more-so gotten into FPS's. I kind of feel like the FPS genre is about to hit a slump like MMOs where the majority of people play WoW and when they try a brand new MMO it's not "WoW" enough for them or it's too buggy. It always made me laugh when people complain about brand new MMOs having bugs. I remember hearing some people say that when WoW came out it never had any problems which they totally got flamed for that because that was totally not true. I hope that some upcoming MMOs bring the genre out of it's slump because it is kind of ridiculous. But getting back onto topic I feel like people aren't giving other FPS's as much of a chance as they should. I don't care what anybody else says Bad Company 1 and 2 were great games but underappreciated. BC1's story was way better than 2 but BC2 definitely improved online play. Medal of Honor yes had issues, but I definitely enjoyed the story and had some fun with the online multiplayer. I also think it says a lot about a developer when the game has been out less than a month and has had 2 patches. The biggest issue I personally had with the game was that the multiplayer wasn't expansive enough. My two favorite things though were the campaign(which I guess I didn't get any bugs made a difference but I hear some people hated it) and the other was I loved score streaks.

There is one thing I really wish DICE would come out with. I wish they would rewarded the player for playing tactically. For example, the sniper class in a game could get score streak points for marking enemies on the map and their allies killing them, the medic of course would get a score streak of course by healing, a demolitions expert by blowing up enemy vehicles, and an assault by capturing bases. Of course this would probably have to be on a game mode that allowed all of these things to be done but I think it would make for interesting gameplay that rewarded players for playing as a team. Also class specific killstreaks would be really cool in my opinion as long as none of them were really overpowered(ala nuke or bs like that). For example the medic's could be a first aid station where in that area it healed friendly players by a slow amount, the snipers might be a tripwire or something, an assault could be a motion sensor or something that showed infantry, and the demo could have something like the assault except for vehicles. This wouldn't necessarily have to be everything but was just to give examples. Although if somebody came out with a game like this it would probably still be overlooked.

If you have anything you would like to see in an FPS please feel free to share it. Or if you would like to have a discussion about what I said about thinking FPS's are going to have the same issues as MMOs feel free to post your thoughts on that too.

I'm just tired of seeing a new FPS drop every month and having it hyped out of the ass-two months ago it was Reach a month ago Medal of Honor..a few days from now Black Ops people are freaking obsessed with this genre and its really annoying. I just Vanquish the other day and I think it did a great job of doing something new in the 3rd person shooter arena..I'm waiting to see if ANY FPS would dare to do something different other than the same copy and paste ive been seeing.

End Rant.

I don't know exactly what you mean because you are kind of vague on this but if you meant MoH, MoH is like the Battlefield games because the online is by the same people DICE. Maybe you meant about how everybody is copying other games game modes? Like how Reach uses DICE's Gold Rush?

I find it frustrating when people complain about FPS's not being enough like CoD. They might as well just play CoD instead of complaining.

I also hate that. Especially considering how many problems CoD actually has.

Yeah I am probably one of the few gamers that feel like IW falling apart could be a good thing they don't patch their games worth a crap.

I actually hate all those CoD, Battlefield and MoH games.

If I play a FPS, it's one from Valve. Or one that has a great story or awesome gameplay. Like Fallout or Borderlands.

I guess I should have said competitive multiplayer FPS's. If somebody doesn't like Fallout or Borderlands they have got to be crazy.

You can hardly call Fallout an FPS like CoD is. The total time you are shooting is like 5% of the whole game, the other 95% is an RPG game.
So if someone hates RPG games, especially like Fallout and Oblivion where there's such an immense world to explore, they are going to dislike Fallout.

Yeah very true. It's hard to find people these days that can dislike a game but also see how it is a great game. Most people these days think that disliking a game means it's a bad game but the two are totally different. Just because you might dislike a game doesn't make it necessarily bad it just might not be your thing.

I stick to TF2 (fun) and CSS (competitive).
Both run amazingly, and have a huge community. FPS these days just...aren't up to snuff. CoD is attempting to ruin the genre the same way WoW is attempting to ruin its. Actually I shouldn't say that. CoD pulls a huge chunk of people to it, and many games strive to 'be like it'. With WoW, it pulls a huge chunk of people to it, but most good MMOs strive to be very little like WoW.

But really, we can't so much as blame companies for making/supporting crap games, they're in it for the money...like most/every company, but instead be blaming casual gamers.
I've said it before, and i'll always say it, casual gamers are a plague that threatens to ruin the gaming industry for the real gamers.
Just look at what they did to Fable 2/3
The series is just a fucking trainwreck from trying to "appeal to a wider audience". (by wider, they generally mean larger...and by larger, they mean casuals).

Casual =/= Mainstream

I certainly consider myself to be a casual gamer, even if the games I play include mega man, sin & punishment, and such. It's more about time management, than it is choice.

They are trying to appeal to the mainstream - people who don't try to make time for gaming. They want it to be easy to jump in and play, without knowing anything about gaming beforehand.

I don't really play FPS games, but I have played them. CoD is definitely not on my like list. BF and Halo are on my like list.
My games are racing and fighting anyway, FPS get too repetitive. They'd need a good story for me to keep playing, like Halo.

I know what they're trying to do.
I'm just saying it's mostly ruining games these days. Over simplifying them to the point a real gamer finds it pathetic, just so a casual gamer can "get into it easier" is a crappy route.
I mean, like I said, there really is no better example then Fable 1 compared to Fable 3. They completely gutted the game, all so it'd appeal to a wider audience.

Really, the only solution is to genocide casuals. I'm afraid it's come to this. If gamers are ever going to get their hobby back, we'll have to take it by force.

Also, I don't consider people casual gamers by the time spent playing videogames, but by the level of competence they possess (and demand from a game).
Casual gamers are just the type of gamers who enjoy instant gratification, and want to feel like they're accomplishing a lot more then they actually are. An example would be: While playing CoD, you just mow down people left, right and center with ease. To a casual FPS gamer, this feels amazing. To a real FPS gamer...you feel as if it was a hollow accomplishment.

If I weren't tired as hell I could probably explain my point better, so maybe i'll come back after sleeeeeep.

This is the most nonsensical post (Granted I cut the other stuff from it) I've ever seen. You act like gaming is COMPLETELY dead. True, quite a few genres are going downhill, but a lot of genres are also doing great. Look at Puzzle games. You see so many come out, despite most of the being clones of other puzzle games, and people still love them. Racing games: Depending on the type of racing game, it's either boring, or adrenaline-rushing. A good handful of racing games that come each year are great, and people still continue to think that they're great.

Gaming isn't dead, but people who like to join in on the "Let's hate games because they aren't made by Valve or some other godly company" fad seem to always think that it is. Seriously though, people always compare Valve games to any other game out there. Valve is just another company. Their games are great, but so are a lot of other companies' games.
