Gaming Fortnite Voice Chat

While I am playing Fortnite, I cannot respond to other people via Voice Chat, yet I can hear them. They cannot hear me when I speak. One of my friends told me that you don't need a headset, and even when I used one, it didn't work. What to do? Thanks for any help I can get.

Does your headset have a Mic? Had a flatmate one time who was screaming at his headset, even though it didnt have a mic.

Are your mates playing on a Switch? Or other system in crossplay? If I remember correctly voice only works via the phone app, if it is implemented for the Switch.

The mic port apparently works for Fortnite and can be used (from what I've heard), try another mic.
