Hacking format sd card?

What is all this talk about having to format your sd card? something about fat or something?

I never did this to my m3 real ds tripple loader, and 8gb sdhc. do i need to do this? how do i do it? what does it do?

I dunno.. when I got my cyclo it instructed me to format my C drive first, but i downloaded a patch and I dont think the new firmware makes you do that first

If you want to do it properly (windows does not format SD cards correctly - they work but some then have freezing issues - especially Kingston cards)

Get the panasonic sd formatter (free use google) and use that

sometimes when i turn my ds on it says there is no card in slot 1 when there is my m3. and i have too take it out and blow on the card and in the slot 1 just like in the old school. is that because i did not format?

no, that's because the contacts on your m3 are dirty, or not touching the contacts in your DS.

yes, that's the whole point of formatting.


formatting is basicly (re)writing a hidden index file on your hard disk, usb stick, or memory card, that contains a list with where every piece of data is located.
such a rewritten index file is almost always empty(unless you use risky dirty tools, which aren't recommended)

formatting is only really necessary when your m3 freezes when opening files, when folders and files with strange names appear(like 987gu6576hfe34rfy54f4fy.hjn$khg), or when filesizes are displayed wrong(roms with a size of 0 bytes, or sav files of 500MB, things like that)
