I'm going through and customizing the look of my computer, and I was wondering if it is possible to replace the folder image with an image from the folder itself? Kind of like Album art for a packet of songs, but for any folder? I know that Windows 7 has 2 or 3 images coming out of the folder that give you a peek of what's inside, but instead of that, I just want to replace the icon itself with one from the inside of the folder. Does anyone know if this is possible?

It is possible to use custom icons. I don't know how to make them but my rom folders are a snes, nes, genesis.

Right click a folder, properties, then go to the customize tab, then go to Choose Picture on the Folder Picture section. Might be the same in 7, but I'm on XP.

This will be on thumbnail view by the way.

EDIT: No, it doesn't work on 7, I forgot that my mom's computer has 7 on it.

Try this: right click on the folder and press Properties, go to the Customize tab, and click Change Icon. If you can find your image as a .ico file, you should be able to choose it there. I think there is software that can convert an image to a .ico file.

Yay! My 500th post!

That option isn't available on Windows 7 :/

At least, not on my computer. I used to do that for XP as well, but I can't here.

And yeah, I use thumbnail view for most of my folders because I like the previews. It makes everything look more interactive, as opposed to detailed and boring.

Hm. Well, creating a string of shortcuts doesn't really solve the problem either...

Ah well. I suppose I'll just leave it be, then. I'll find some other way to customize it. Thanks, all.

Hm - are you running Windows 7 Ultimate? If so, are you running 32 bit or 64? I'm not sure if it'll make difference, but I'm not sure why you'd be able to do so and I'm not. Unless of course, it is a shortcut, which it doesn't look like. Odd :/

Sure:

That's a screenshot of one of the folders I want to change. I took out the Homegroup name and directory, though, as they have my name and such in it.

Ah, you're absolutely right. I can change the icon on my desktop, but not in those special folders. Awesome - thanks!

Now I suppose I'll have to find a place to create them that's not a special folder, but one that doesn't show on my desktop. (I like having a completely empty desktop.) Hm. I'll figure it out. Thanks a lot, all of you.
