Feel free to disregard all my statements, as I AM a total noob, but the way I feel is: so what if they put out an update?! There's nothing pushing me to use any of the online features on the DSi; so I can't download calenders and clocks? So what? There's 1 good game on the dsistore imo, and that's flipnote studio. Yeah, now I have to be 1/4 to download that, but when I get my DSi I'm getting an m3i Zero, and they've already put out a 1.4 update! So I update everything, download the good games, and then never come back. And if they put out another good game on the store in the future? Fine, I'll just wait until those crack programmers have come up with another update to counter that one! Face it: Nintendo's fighting a losing battle. What's going on with the ds cannot be stopped. If bu some crazy means they do eventually stop it? Then it's back to running what THEY want us to run on our DSis. And by that point we'll all be on to something bigger and better by then. It's all a big game: Nintendo gets the upper hand, and there's (apparantly) nothing we can do to fight it, then some supergenius discovers a crack, and then we have the upper hand and there''s nothing Nintendo can do to fight it, and so on and so forth. I have no idea which way this whole homebrew/piracy freedom is going to last, but just enjoy it while you can. The homebrew, that is, NO piracy please.

Piracy will remain as long as hackers exist...as long as there's something left to be hacked hackers will try their best to hack it
so for all we know there could always be piracy...i mean look how long people have been pirating music and movies i'm surprised people actually buy CDs anymore me personally i haven't actually bought a CD in around 10 years but the piracy age only increases as time goes on companies try to fight it but the more they fight it the worst it gets. That is just human nature the idea of being able to do things you aren't supposed to do and do it so easily is just appealing to people.Back on topic though i agree with you its not even really worth to upgrade anything because there isn't really anything worth while for the DSi as of right now.

I totally agree with you.

My point is...innocent non-pirates are getting ground up in the gears of this machine. And that bothers me.

i think Nintendo doesn't want homebrew either since all their games are published to be used on their systems and games that aren't published for it arent to be used on it...thats just my opinion on what nintendo believes.

With regard to the underlined and bolded words above...
Truer words never have been spoken.

Again, my whole argument has to do with the PRINCIPLE of the thing...and, quite frankly, why Nintendo is going about this whole thing totally the wrong way.

They should stock the DSiStore with things people ACTUALLY WANT...good stuff...and not torture us by releasing only one or two a week...and crappy stuff at that.

If they really wanted to eliminate a lot of piracy, they would put all the titles, available for download, into the Store...put all the old GBA titles in there, too, and so on...and allow people to download for a nominal charge.

That way, those, like me, who are honest...would have what we wanted...and we'd pay for what we got.

The pirates...they will always be around. but innocent people shouldn't be ground up in the battle...and people shouldn't be denied access to what they want...all because Nintendo is so uppity about a few pirates.

Like I said before...I really don't care for me, personally, because I went back to the DS Lite...and if they made enough improvements to make this silly battle worth it...I might even get a DSi again. As it is, I currently own one, but I just let my mom play with it. I use only the DS Lite for now.

Out of pure spite, I updated an Acekard to work on 1.4, then loaded it up with all the sorts of games my mom would like (ones we already own, anyway) plus some homebrew applications of games I thought she would enjoy, such as Word Search DS, and that sort of thing, plus a copy of the Holy Bible. I then gave it to my mom to use.

I still have an original 1.3 Acekard I use with my DS lite, and two backups of that card...but both of THOSE are updated to 1.4.

So I can use them with the DSi. I just choose to go with the DS Lite for now, because I am pissed off with Nintendo for the way they are handling the entire situation.

They'd do far better offering more and better titles in the Download Store.

well there is another topic floating around about the DS lite's price dropping at walmart to $99.99 and they were talking about it might be nintendo is trying to sell off all DS Lites and get rid of them and start focusing on the DSi and if they do that it might stop a lot of piracy if they keep updating the dsi.

And just where do they think new talent is going to come from?
The game developers of tomorrow are going to be the homebrewers of today.

You are not born knowing how to program that stuff. You learn. How do you learn?? By reading books, taking classes, and PRACTICING. You learn by going in and messing around with things.

For example, I program PhP. I am a SYSOP for my own LOTGD game, as my signature line indicates. Before I got into LOTGD, I had never even freaking SEEN code. But I went in, started looking around, figuring out how things worked...tweaking things that already worked to alter their function, and thus, learned how things worked, and, eventually, was able to program my own modules for the game.

But it was a learning process.

The homebrewers of today are the ones who will be the game programmers and developers of tomorrow.

Nintendo is screwing up, royally, by targeting homebrewers.

Yep.
This is why I bought three brand-new DS Lites, and am keeping them at home in their original boxes. So that I will always have access to one, no matter what.

Likewise, I now own TWO GBA/SP's...one with the bright screen, one with the normal screen. And I'll probably buy a couple more bright-screen ones. While they are still available.

I agree with that.
I don't think they want to be making/selling systems and let some random people create their own games.
they also want to make profit for that games that they made. not only the system.
and it's true that they don't tell you what exactly the update is going to benefit you or not. But I don't think they would/should put things saying "This will Block your flash card such as R4, acekard etc etc and you won't be able to play your homebrew games."
That's their trick to make less flashcard users. because most of everyone would think that updating will only benefit you.
It's business for them. they have to sell their games and make money. you always have to be clever than the other one so you can get more.
if you wana enjoy your flash card and also dsiware, it would be stupid but probably the only solution would be get 2 DSi. keep upgrading one but leave the other one as it is so you can play your homebrew games.

that or have a DSi...and a DS Lite...like me.

the problem is...they want it all their way.

They make the devices CAPABLE of such things, and then just don't ever want anyone to find out that they ARE capable of doing those things...and then they whine and cry when people figure it out.

It's like the music industry. They made the technology...such that downloading became possible...and then cried when people started doing it.
It's not new. When we were kids, we used to swap each other's cassettes and dub them. Never put the music industry out of business then....and it's no different than downloading today...except that downloading can be traced, dubbing cassettes couldn't be traced.

Hell, in the 80's - Bow Wow Wow did a song about that very thing...C30, C60, C90 Go! all about taping songs off the radio. Which we also did as kids. And the music industry got their titties in a twist over that, too. Never bankrupted them.

I just get annoyed that it seems, nowadays, corporations get everything their own way...and whenever they don't they scream and whine and cry and throw tantrums, they seek huge penalties against individuals that far exceed the value of anything they ever could have actually cost them...it's just the whole Gestapo attitude that really pisses me off.

In a way, it's like racist white America. This is not a statement about all whites...or all of America...but racist white america, very specifically...used to have 100 percent of it's way, 100 percent of the time...and now they whine and cry whenever they DON'T get their way.

I just am an advocate for the little guy, that's all. I take sides for the little guy against THE MAN in almost every possible situation you can think of...just because THE MAN is...well, THE MAN.

ahaha yeah red and black are my favorite colors so i had to get it =D but they're expensive in japan it was like 200$US

Nice.
Still plays games and stuff in English, right?
You can set it to have English as the default language, right?

I ended up with the turquoise one.

Just got me one of the Pearl Pink 2nd gen GBA/SP's off EBay.
Additionally, I own a shiny red DSLite...and like red, too...hence my getting the red DS Lite
I also have a cobalt blue GBA/SP 1st generation

The theee DS Lites I have in their original boxes are another red one, a dark blue one, and a silver one.

Looking to probably pick up another one or two second gen GBA/SP's off EBay in the near future...get 'em while they are still available, and stock them away, in case one ever breaks, etc.

that and I may look into getting one of those Dingoo's.

Just basically insurance that MY gaming enjoyment shall never be infringed upon.

I take my gaming freedom very seriously.

Yep. And I remember when they first came out with cassette machines that could "scan" for the start of a song for you. Before that, you had to guess or use the tape counter.

Hell, I remember 8-track tapes, do you? Remember that Godawful "CLUNK" you'd get, sometimes right in the middle of a song, when it changed tracks? Or other times, they'd have 3-4 minutes of blank tape at the end of a track, to avoid getting the CLUNK in the middle of a song.....and no way to fast forward or rewind...so that you had to listen to 3-4 minutes of nothing in order to get to the next song?

Heck, I remember when there weren't even floppy disks on computers...or mice. I remember uploading computer programs from cassette tapes! And then, I remember when floppy disks...really WERE "floppy" when they were 5 1/4 inch...not the 3 1/2 inch "floppies" that they have now, which are, themselves, almost extinct now.

Amazing, the things we old farts remember, huh?
