I stupidly modified IOS 58 on a freshly hacked 4.3u Wii and inverted HBC, after running hackmii again HBC installed with IOS 61 and now everything but WiiMOD/MMM and the hackmii installer gets an exception ISI.

USB GX and everything else seems to be fine but this is not my wii and i'd like to put HBC back through IOS 58

I tried restoring the original IOS 58 v6175 through WiiMOD but now when i run the hackmii installer my wiimote disconnects- everything is unplugged from the wii, batteries are good and have tried re-syncing as well as previous installer versions and nothing- it still disconnects until reboot

Can i fix this without doing a complete nand restore?

Download ModMii and use the HackMii Solutions feature. Follow it's guide.

This pretty much accomplishes the same thing as what icebrg5 suggested, but with a few extra steps, but kinda more noob friendly since you are a noob, and will also have you install a few more up to date IOS's.

MMM ended up disconnecting the remote too, however i was able to run tantric's ios 58 installer after a couple tries through Letterbomb which then allowed me to reinstall HBC on the fresh 58 without the installer hanging
Thanks for your help!

Do you now have 58 v6175 installed? Did you try installing 6176 at all? I haven't heard about this issue before so just trying to get some more info about what you experienced.

i used WiiMOD to reinstall 58 v6175 after my HBC inverted, however when i went to run the hackmii installer my wiimote disconnected on the 'press 1' screen. this happened with different wiimotes and installer versions, through HBC and letterbomb [with letter bomb the wiimote LED stayed on but the ''press 1'' screen froze].
I replaced the hackmii installer with Tantric's 58 installer in Letterbomb and it didnt work the first time, but it did during the second. it was using ios 80 [from letterbomb i assume] to install 58.
afterwards hackmii worked fine and re-installed HBC on Tantric's 58; right-side up.

i still have exception ISI errors when running Homebrew Browser and WiiXplorer, SysCheck returns an error when writing to FAT so i cant check a recent log.
USB GX and WiiMC seem to be fine.
Im reformatting the SD to FAT 32 - 32 kb cluster [not quick format which i did originally with the same settings]
I haven't installed any emulators yet- will edit with results

i used WiiMOD to reinstall 58 v6175 after my HBC inverted, however when i went to run the hackmii installer my wiimote disconnected on the 'press 1' screen. this happened with different wiimotes and installer versions, through HBC and letterbomb [with letter bomb the wiimote LED stayed on but the ''press 1'' screen froze].

You don't need to run syscheck to get the current version. Are you able to run Wii Mod? Also what version are/were you using? To check the IOS version, go to the IOS menu and highlight 58 it will display the version you are currently on. Does it mark it as clean(cyan colored) and if you remember did it? And when you say you used Wii Mod to install IOS 58 you do mean through the IOS menu right, if not then what do you mean? Also do you have the new wiimotes that don't work with old wii apps? You said you tried different wiimote, were they all the same (all new kind, all old kind, or mix)? Thanks

i cant check it anymore as it was a friends wii and he was just happy to play wii games without having to think about how it works or what other homebrew there is, so he took it back
when HBC inverted i was able to use wiiMOD, i went to the ios menu, selected 58 and used the wireless option to obtain a new one under v6175 which i believe was there after i freshly installed HBC the first time. after i screwed HBC up, 58 was green of course, and when i tried to reinstall 6175 it was still green. i didnt check it in wiiMOD after running tantrics 58 installer so i dont know if was 'clean' or not. i assume it was- because HBC was able to reinstall.
the 2 wiimotes i was using were circa 2006/2007 from my own wii which i purchased used from people that got it during the first year [didnt know about wii softmods then but it worked out pretty well for me, yay bootmii written over boot2- couldnt do the same for my friend but he has it as an ios.]
it turns out when he got home he got 2012 wiimote plus remotes and both would disconnect from USB GX [rev 3.0] at the menu (using channel launcher and HBC) the only way around it was him finding an old wiimote to go through the menu with until he wanted to run a motion plus game [or any game with more than 1 player], then he would have to disconnect/reconnect controllers in the right order once the game started. annoying- but at least it works.

So before you installed with Wii Mod it was green? And then after installing 58 from Wii Mod it was still green? Did you apply patches? If so which ones and why(patches are why HBC inverted in the first place)? If not, are you sure Wii Mod was successful with the install? Also which version of Wii Mod were you using? Was it 3.2?

Dude, be honest, how high were you during this whole process? Also, almost all homebrew now supports the newer Wiimotes, including hackmii, which is used to install the Homebrew Channel. Make sure you're using the latest version of hackmii as well as WiiMod.

well, man, i was using the latest hackmii with some of the oldest wiimote models- explain that
i downloaded everything fresh and of the latest update for the softmod- i only tried using an old hackmii when the latest installer kept disconnecting my Old wiimotes
my friend had no controllers of his own til i was done with the mod and he took it home, so it was hard to predict his brand new ones wouldnt work in the USB GX menu (also the lastest rev)

Were his remotes knockoffs?

I think there is some confusion here.

Old wiimotes work with all homebrew, if you have new wiimotes then you need software that has been recompiled with a recent devkitpro.
If your software has not been updated then you'll need an old wiimote.

it was 4.3 u, i was having some usb issues and WiiMod said that 58 had no ahbprot so i attempted to reinstall it with the one patch [ahbprot], stupid in retrospect i know. Dont remember if it was initially green, probly not, but it was after and thats when hbc inverted.

simply put, i shouldnt have f***ed with 58 when hbc was already running with it.

That patch doesn't do what you think it does. The SetAHBPORT does not give the IOS you apply it to AHBPROT, it allows that IOS to start another with AHBPROT. If I am understanding everything correctly you could have fixed your problem by installing 58 with Wii Mod and not applying any patches to it. Thanks for answering my question.
